Dear Rajukians,
Assalamualiqum. This is your ex principal BG Salehin (retd). Hope you are doing good. By now we are well informed about the DO's and DON'Ts to protect ourselves and family from ongoing pandemic. Actually, I am not here to advice you on this issue; I am here with an appeal for a Rajukian family.
Dr Tajkia Mostafa khadem (ex rajukian HSC 2014), Marwan Mostafa Khadem (ex Rajukian HSC 2019) and Safa Mostafa Khadem is a current student of RUMC. Presently they are in distress and it is our moral responsibility to step forward and support them with whatever capacity we have. Please read the following appeal made by a friend (Tasmiah) of Dr Tajkia. It doesn’t matter how much you can contribute; your sympathy and prayers matter too.
Dear everyone,
This is Tasmiah Haque from BBA 23rd, and I'm writing today as a plea for support, in any form and amount possible, for a family that I consider my own. I urge you to please read this even if it takes an additional minute, because it's personally important to me that you know and understand how bad the circumstances are.
My best friend is a young, recent MBBS graduate from Chittagong Medical College with two younger siblings - one brother in the first year of university and one sister still in school - who have lost their mother under the most tragic circumstances possible on March 31, 2020. Their father, who has worked abroad for most of his life, came back to the country and had a stroke of sorts roughly a year ago, leaving him terminally ill and in a vegetative state. He is on full-time palliative care, cannot move or form coherent speech, and is fed through a tube.
These three kids, with my friend who is now an intern doctor and effectively the breadwinner and guardian for her siblings, lost their mother to the sheer mockery that our healthcare system is. Her mom was turned away from hospital after hospital after all forms of pleading and reasoning and was denied admission and ICU support because the doctors had a suspicion she might have COVID-19 (IEDCR took swabs on the 31st night, and have not yet disclosed the results even though they were supposed to by 1.00 pm on Wednesday).
My friend's mother died in her arms inside an ambulance waiting outside one of these hospitals, after being refused critical medical attention. (More in 1st comment.)
This family - essentially three young kids - is now looking at a very uncertain future financially. They do not have an earning parent. The family's savings have been all but depleted in the last one year or so since their dad has been ill. My friend is only beginning her medical career and realistically cannot afford the expenses her family has right now.
Without financial support, these kids will simply not be able to afford their only living parent's medical care, their living and other expenses. My friend has had to go through this utterly traumatic experience alone, and will now go through a lot more of struggle taking care of her father and orphaned siblings - this is where your support comes in:
We at IBA have the advantage of one of the strongest alumni networks in the country. I request the support of anyone reading this not only in the form of monetary contribution, but in tapping into all of our networks that may bring in more help.
If you can think of ways this family can be supported beyond one-time fundraising, please let me know your thoughts.
