🧠 Try This Past Paper Q — No Calculator Allowed!
From a real Add Math Paper 1-style question:
If,
x + 1/x = 5,
then find the value of
x² + 1/x²
🚫 No calculator. No shortcuts. Just logic.
💡 Hint:
There’s a simple identity that helps here — and top students use it all the time:
(x + 1/x)² = x² + 2 + 1/x²
Now rearrange:
x² + 1/x² = (x + 1/x)² - 2
You already know x + 1/x = 5,
so...
x² + 1/x² = 5² - 2 = 25 - 2 = 23 ✅
🎯 These are the questions that take 30 seconds — if you’ve trained right.

⚠️ 3 Common Add Math Mistakes That Cost Students Marks — And How to Fix Them
Even if you know the syllabus, small mistakes can ruin your paper. These are the 3 errors we see over and over again — and they’re totally avoidable.
❌ Mistake 1: Identity Confusion
Most students mess up this classic:
(x + 1/x)^2 ≠ x^2 + 1/x^2
They forget the middle term!
✅ Fix:
Use the full identity:
(a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2
So,
(x + 1/x)^2 = x^2 + 2 + 1/x^2
→ Rearranged:
x^2 + 1/x^2 = (x + 1/x)^2 - 2
Simple. Clean. High marks.
❌ Mistake 2: Ignoring Brackets in Expansion or Differentiation
Example:
-2(x - 3)^2 is NOT -2x^2 - 12x + 18
✅ Fix:
Expand step-by-step. Don’t rush or drop brackets.
Wrong expansion = wrong answer = lost marks.
❌ Mistake 3: Estimating in Paper 1
This is a non-calculator paper, but many students still try to estimate:
√3 ≈ 1.7, or use decimals for sin(30°)
✅ Fix:
Learn your exact values:
sin(30°) = 1/2
tan(45°) = 1
Leave √3 as √3 — no decimals in Paper 1!
🎯 Fix these now — and you’ll easily save 5+ marks in every paper.

🧠 Only 1 in 5 Students Get This Right — Are You One of Them?
Quick Math Challenge (Add Math – O Level style):**
Find the remainder when
p(x) = 6x^3 + x^2 - 12x + 5
is divided by x - 2.
🔍 No calculator. No factorising. Just pure logic.
💡 Hint: If you know the Remainder Theorem, this should take you less than 30 seconds.
But most students get it wrong — either by overthinking or missing a step.
📌 This exact question format came from the 2024 Add Math Paper.

📘 3 Things I Wish I Knew Before My O Level Math Exam
(Hint: These could save your grade 👇)
1️⃣ Practice > Notes
I spent too much time reading and not enough doing. Solving problems is what actually builds skill.
2️⃣ Past Paper Timing
It’s not just what you solve — it’s how fast. Practice past papers under timed conditions — it changes everything.
3️⃣ Silly Mistakes Matter
I lost easy marks on signs, formulas, and skipping double-checks. Don’t ignore the basics!
🎯 O Level success isn’t about being a genius — it’s about knowing what works and doing it early.

Tired of blanking out during the exam? 😰
Let’s make this iconic formula stick — once and for all!
🎵 Sing it to this tune:
"x equals minus b, plus or minus square root,
b squared minus 4ac, all over 2a..." 🎶
(Yep, it’s the same tune as “Pop Goes the Weasel”)

Think toppers study ALL DAY?
Think again. 😮
📌 It’s not about HOW LONG you study —
It’s about HOW WELL you use the time.
Here’s what smart students do instead:
⏱️ Study in short, focused bursts (25–40 mins)
🔁 Revise mistakes weekly — not just cram before exams
🎯 Focus on *one concept* at a time (not 10 chapters in a row)
📖 Practice exam-style questions, not just examples
💬 Truth: Many As / A2 students don’t study for 5 hours a day.
They just study with strategy.
🔓 Break the myth. Build your system.

🧠 Doing past papers isn’t enough.
🔑 Reviewing them the right way is what sets top scorers apart.
Here’s how top students make every paper count:
🔍 Step 1: Mark it honestly.
No half marks, no “I knew this.” Be strict — just like the examiner.
🧠 Step 2: Diagnose the mistake.
Was it a:
— ❌ Concept error?
— ❌ Silly mistake?
— ❌ Misreading the question?
📘 Step 3: Rewrite — don’t just read the solution.
Retrain your brain to solve it correctly, from scratch.
📌 Bonus Tip: Create a Mistake Log — a dedicated notebook where you write:
➤ The question
➤ Your mistake
➤ The corrected solution
➤ What you’ll do differently next time
This ONE habit can skyrocket your score in O/A Level exams.
