1. ABC (প্রাথমিক জ্ঞান বা তত্ত্ব, Primary knowledge): Does he know the ABC of science?
2. Above all (সর্বোপরি, More than anything else): He is a painter, philosopher and above all a poet
3. Above board (অকপট, Beyond doubt): His dealings are open and above board.
4. An open secret (যে গোপন রহস্য অনেকেরই জানা, এ supposed secret that is in fact known to many people) His plan to go to the Middle East is an open secret.
5. Apple of discord (কলহের বিষয়, Matter of dispute/ subject of quarrel): The plot of land was an apple of discord between the two brothers.
6. Apple of s***m (মাকাল ফল, Gold brick): The boon proved to be an apple of s***m in the end.
7. Apple of one's eve (নয়নের মণি, Very beloved): The son is the apple of his mother's eye.
8. A black sheep (কুলাঙ্গার/অপদার্থ, Worthless/having no value): He is a black sheep in this family.
9. A bolt from the blue (বিনা মেঘে বজ্রপাত, Unwished for): The news of my father's death came to me as a bolt from the blue.
10. A man of letters (পণ্ডিত, Scholar): A man of Amers is respected everywhere.
11. A rift in the lute (মতবিরোধ, Dissent): A rift in the lute became wider at the last meeting of the working committee.
12. A far cry (বহু ব্যবধান, Far intervention): It is a far cry from Dhaka to Paris.
13. A sleeping partner (অর্থ প্রদানকারী নিষ্কর্মা অংশীদার, An inactive member of a company): He is a sleeping partner of his firm.
14. A bird's eye view (এক নজরে দেখা, At a glance)। He had a bird's eye view of the villages around
15. A dark horse (যে ব্যক্তির গুণাগুণের পরিচয় এখনও মেলেনি, Unkown person) Rahmat is an active young man but his brother is a dark horse to me.
16. All ears to (মনোযোগী, Attentive) He was all ears to what the teacher was saying
17. All moonshine (অসার, ফাঁকি, Frivolous): Your statement is all moonshine.
18. All in all (সর্বেসর্বা, All powerful): He is all in all there.
19 All on a sudden (অকস্মাৎ, Unexpectedly): All on a sudden, he met me here.
20 A slow coach (ডিলে লোক, A Lazy bones): Nothing can be expected of a slow coach like you.
21. A going concern (চালু ব্যবসায়, Running firm): It was foolish of him to have sold a going concern.
22. All the same (একই, No difference): It is all the same to me whether you help me or not.
23. All over with (সব শেষ হওয়া, No hope): It is all over with the patient.
24. After all (সবকিছু সত্ত্বেও, Inspite of every things): After all he is a patriot.
25. A flying visit (সংক্ষিপ্ত, A very short visit): He just made a flying visit to us on his way to the club.

27 As long as (যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত, So far as): 1 shall help you as long as I can.
28 As soon as (যথাশীঘ্র, Quickly): Meet me as soon as you can.
29. As good as (অপেক্ষা কম নয়, প্রকৃতপক্ষে, Keeping promise): The machinery is as good as new,
30. As though(যেন, as if): He behaved as though he were a mad.
31. At a discount (যথার্থ মূল্যায়ন না হওয়া, Devaluation) Simple living is at a discount nowadays.
32. At all costs (যে কোন প্রকারে, By any means) He will do this at all costs.
