TDS observed Menstrual Hygiene Day at Nabinbag, Rampura.
Like many other developing countries, menstruation remains a social taboo and a matter of stigma among women in Bangladesh. Taking this fact into consideration, TDS celebrated Menstrual Hygiene Day 2015 with the objective of breaking this taboo and increasing awareness about the necessity of ensuring proper menstrual hygiene. Rather than isolating the target beneficiary group outside the community to deliver the message, the organization took the initiative in to community.
With the objective of initiating conversation about menstruation to break the taboo, TDS organized a dialogue session including adolescent boys and girls along with their parents. The program was aimed at making these adolescent boys and girls to break the silence and come out of this hesitation. A painting exhibition was also arranged whereby they can express their thoughts regarding the social taboos encircling menstruation.
