First, Ask Yourself One Question:
Is the person breathing normally?

If the person is unconscious but breathing normally, the Recovery Position is the safest first-aid technique until emergency medical help arrives.

📖 What is the Recovery Position?

The Recovery Position is a side-lying position used for an unresponsive person who is breathing normally and has no suspected spinal injury. It helps keep the airway open and reduces the risk of choking on saliva, vomit, or blood.

🩺 When Should You Use It?

Use the Recovery Position if the person:
✅ Is unresponsive
✅ Is breathing normally
✅ Has no obvious spinal, neck, or major traumatic injury.
✅ Is waiting for emergency medical services (EMS)

🔄 How to Place Someone in the Recovery Position:

1️⃣ Ensure the scene is safe.
2️⃣ Check responsiveness.
3️⃣ Call emergency medical services.
4️⃣ Open the airway and check breathing for no more than 10 seconds.
5️⃣ If breathing normally:
✔ Place the arm nearest you at 90°.
✔ Bring the far arm across the chest and place the back of the hand against the cheek.
✔ Bend the far knee.
✔ Roll the person gently onto their side.
✔ Tilt the head back slightly to keep the airway open.
✔ Position the upper leg at a right angle for stability.
✔ Monitor breathing continuously until help arrives.

📖 Recovery Position কী?

Recovery Position হলো একজন অচেতন কিন্তু স্বাভাবিকভাবে শ্বাস নেওয়া ব্যক্তিকে পাশ ফিরিয়ে শোয়ানোর একটি নিরাপদ First Aid পদ্ধতি, যদি তার মেরুদণ্ড বা ঘাড়ে গুরুতর আঘাতের সন্দেহ না থাকে। এটি-
✅ শ্বাসনালী (Airway) খোলা রাখতে সাহায্য করে।
✅ লালা, বমি বা রক্ত শ্বাসনালীতে ঢুকে শ্বাসরোধ (Aspiration) হওয়ার ঝুঁকি কমায়।

🩺 কখন Recovery Position ব্যবহার করবেন?
নিচের সবগুলো শর্ত পূরণ হলে Recovery Position ব্যবহার করুন-
✅ ব্যক্তি অচেতন (Unresponsive)
✅ ব্যক্তি স্বাভাবিকভাবে শ্বাস নিচ্ছেন
✅ ঘাড়, মেরুদণ্ড বা শরীরে বড় ধরনের আঘাতের স্পষ্ট সন্দেহ নেই
✅ জরুরি চিকিৎসা সেবা (EMS) আসা পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করতে হবে

❌ কখন Recovery Position ব্যবহার করবেন না?

🚫 ব্যক্তি স্বাভাবিকভাবে শ্বাস নিচ্ছেন না অথবা শুধু Gasping (হাঁপাচ্ছেন)। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে CPR শুরু করুন।
🚫 বড় ধরনের সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা, উঁচু থেকে পড়ে যাওয়া বা ডাইভিং দুর্ঘটনার পর মেরুদণ্ডে আঘাতের সন্দেহ থাকলে। যতটা সম্ভব মেরুদণ্ড সোজা (Spinal Alignment) রাখুন এবং প্রশিক্ষিত উদ্ধারকারী আসা পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করুন।

🔄 কীভাবে Recovery Position-এ রাখবেন?

1️⃣ প্রথমে নিশ্চিত করুন যে ঘটনাস্থল নিরাপদ।
2️⃣ ব্যক্তি সাড়া দিচ্ছেন কি না (Responsiveness) পরীক্ষা করুন।
3️⃣ জরুরি সেবা নম্বরে ফোন করুন অথবা আশেপাশের কাউকে ফোন করতে বলুন।
4️⃣ Airway খুলে সর্বোচ্চ ১০ সেকেন্ড ধরে শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাস পরীক্ষা করুন।
5️⃣ যদি ব্যক্তি স্বাভাবিকভাবে শ্বাস নেন-
✔ আপনার কাছের হাতটি শরীরের সাথে ৯০° কোণে রাখুন।
✔ দূরের হাতটি বুকের ওপর দিয়ে এনে হাতের পেছনের অংশটি তার গালের নিচে রাখুন।
✔ দূরের হাঁটু ভাঁজ করুন।
✔ ব্যক্তিকে ধীরে ধীরে আপনার দিকে পাশ ফিরিয়ে দিন।
✔ মাথা সামান্য পিছনের দিকে কাত করুন যাতে Airway খোলা থাকে।
✔ উপরের পা ৯০° কোণে রাখুন, যাতে শরীর স্থিতিশীল থাকে।
✔ জরুরি সেবা পৌঁছানো পর্যন্ত নিয়মিত শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাস পর্যবেক্ষণ করুন।

🔬 Recovery Position কেন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ?

🫁 শ্বাসনালী খোলা রাখতে সাহায্য করে।
🤢 বমি বা লালা ফুসফুসে ঢোকার (Aspiration) ঝুঁকি কমায়।
👅 জিহ্বা পিছনে গিয়ে Airway বন্ধ হওয়া প্রতিরোধ করে।
