Struggling to speak for 2 minutes on your Cue Card? β±οΈ Use the "Senses" technique to add detail:
If you are describing a "Favorite Place in Dhaka":
ποΈ Sight: "The vibrant, colorful rickshaws..."
π Sound: "The constant, bustling noise of the city..."
π Smell: "The spicy aroma of street food..."
π€ Feel: "The humid, warm air in the evening..."
This builds a vivid picture for the examiner and naturally extends your speaking time!

Most students in Dhaka fail Writing Task 2 because they start writing immediately. π« Stop! Follow the 10-25-5 rule for a Band 7+ structure:
First 10 Mins: Plan your ideas. Write down 2 main arguments and 2 examples.
Next 25 Mins: Write the essay. Since you have a plan, you won't get "writer's block."
Last 5 Mins: Proofread! This is where you catch those "s" mistakes and spelling errors that drop your score.

Listening Part 4 is a continuous talk with no breaks. π± How do you keep up?
Identify the "Signposts": Listen for transition words like "Moving on to...", "In terms of...", or "Lastly...". These tell you the speaker is moving to the next question.
Predict the Word Class: Before the audio starts, look at the gap. Is it a Noun (a thing), an Adjective (a description), or a Number?
Don't Stop: If you miss one answer, let it go. If you panic, you will miss the next three!

To get a high score in Task 1, you must make comparisons. Don't just list numbers like a shopping list! π
Instead of: "Rice production was 50 tons. Wheat was 30 tons."
Try this: "Rice production was significantly higher than that of wheat, standing at 50 tons and 30 tons respectively."
Or this: "Wheat production was just over half the amount of rice produced during the same period."
Linking the data together shows the examiner you can analyze information, not just read it!

"Which paragraph contains the following information?" β This is often the most time-consuming part of the Reading test. β±οΈ
The Strategy:
Do this task LAST: By the time you finish the other questions (Summary, True/False), you will already know the passage well.
Look for Synonyms: The question won't use the same words as the text. If the question says "financial costs," the text might say "expenditure" or "monetary value."
Don't get stuck: If you can't find it in 1 minute, move on and come back later!

Caption:
Does your essay feel messy? The solution is a Topic Sentence. ποΈ
Every body paragraph should start with one clear sentence that tells the examiner exactly what the paragraph is about.
Example Topic: Should children use tablets?
β Bad start: "Many kids like iPads and they play games which is bad for eyes."
β
Good start: "One of the primary drawbacks of excessive tablet use is the negative impact on a child's physical health."
By starting clearly, you make it easy for the examiner to give you a Band 7 or 8 for Coherence and Cohesion!

Part 1 is about your life, hobbies, and hometown. Itβs the easiest part, but don't be too brief! π£οΈ
Question: "Do you like cooking?"
β Too Short: "Yes, I like it very much."
β
Better: "To be honest, I'm not a great cook, but I do enjoy experimenting with traditional Bangladeshi recipes on the weekends."
Tip: Give 2β3 sentences for every answer in Part 1 to show off your fluency immediately!

What do you do if the examiner asks a question you don't know the answer to? Don't stay silent! π€«
Silence is the enemy of Fluency. Instead, use "Filler Phrases" to buy yourself time to think:
"Thatβs a very interesting question, let me think for a second..."
"To be honest, Iβve never really thought about that before, but I suppose..."
"That's a tricky one! If I had to take a guess, I'd say..."
Why this works: It shows the examiner you have the English ability to explain that you are thinking!

Struggling to match headings to paragraphs? Follow this 3-step system:
Read the Headings first: Circle the "keywords" in each heading so you know what to look for.
Check the first and last sentences: Often, the main idea of a paragraph is hidden in the first (Topic) or last (Concluding) sentence.
Identify the "Distractors": There are always more headings than paragraphs. If two headings look similar, look for the specific detail that sets them apart.
Remember: A heading is a summary, not just a detail found in the paragraph!

NEVER copy the question word-for-word in your introduction. If you do, the examiner will literally ignore those words when counting your word count! π±
How to Paraphrase like a pro:
Original: "Some people think that computers are a danger to children."
Paraphrased: "It is often argued that digital devices pose a threat to the younger generation."
Method:
Swap nouns (Computers β‘οΈ Digital devices).
Use synonyms (Danger β‘οΈ Threat).
Change word order (Children β‘οΈ Younger generation).

In the IELTS Listening test, missing one "s" can turn a correct answer into a wrong one! β
If the speaker says: "The students need to bring their notebooks," and you write "notebook"βyou get ZERO points.
How to avoid this:
Listen for the 's' sound: Itβs often subtle, especially with British or Australian accents.
Check the Grammar: If the sentence is "A lot of ______ are required," the answer MUST be plural.
Check the Article: If there is an "a" or "an" before the blank, the answer is singular.
