Ensure equal pay for equal work
Why do women get less pay than men?

While more and more women have been entering the job market every year—both formal and informal—they are still facing serious wage discrimination. A Daily Star report published on January 16, 2019 revealed that women workers at the brick kilns in Lalmonirhat district have been getting half the wage their male counterparts get despite doing the same hard work. The situation is the same for all women workers in the 47 brick kilns of the district. This is fairly representative of the situation countrywide.

What has been known from the report is that the women are getting lower wages (while a male worker gets Tk 800 per day, a woman worker gets Tk 350 to Tk 400 per day) than men because the owners of the brick kilns know very well that these women have no alternative means of earning a livelihood. This is outrageous.

However, not only in the brick kilns, women workers in the construction and agriculture sectors across the country are also paid less than men. According to one study, gender pay gap was 57 percent in 2017 and 54 percent in 2016 in Bangladesh, for the same work. And this gap is far worse in the informal sector. As nearly 90 percent of jobs in Bangladesh are in the informal sectors, according to an ILO report, the extent of exploitation of women workers is easily understood.

The government should come up with some strict policies and enforce the minimum wage laws to eliminate this wide wage discrimination. Besides, there is no alternative to educating the women workers about their rights. The bottom line is, wage discrimination must be eliminated if we are serious about women empowerment and eradicating gender inequality.

7. “Executive ও Future“এমন দুটি শব্দ যাদের এক অক্ষর পর পর vowel আছে।

8. Mozambique এমন একটি দেশের নাম যাতে সবগুলো vowel আছে।

9. A1 একমাত্র শব্দ যাতে ইংরেজী অক্ষর ও সংখ্যা আছে।

10. I এর পরে am বসে কিন্তু I is the ninth letter of alphabet !!!!!!!!!!!!

11. নিচের sentence দুটো খেয়াল করুনঃ

b) Bristi is reading.
বাক্য দুইটির অর্থ কিন্ত একটাই, "বৃষ্টি পড়ছে"!!

12. Stewardesses হল সবচেয়ে বড় ইংরেজি শব্দ যা কিবোর্ডে লিখতে শুধু বাম হাত ব্যবহৃত হয়।

♠10 Simple Tips to Extraordinary Fluency

♥1. Accept That English Is a Weird Language
Sometimes you can find patterns in English grammar, but other times English doesn’t make sense at all. For example, why are “read” (reed) and “read” (red) the same word, but pronounced differently depending on whether you’re speaking in the past or present tense? Or why is “mice” the plural of “mouse”, but “houses” is the plural of “house”?

Unfortunately, there are just as many exceptions as there are rules in English. It’s easy to get stuck on learning how to speak English properly, if you try to find a reason for everything. Sometimes English is weird and unexplainable, so instead the best thing to do is just memorize the strange exceptions and move on.

♥2. Dive into the Deep End
Studying English for an hour once a week isn’t usually enough to make any real progress. The best way to quickly improve your English is to spend at least a few minutes practicing every day. Immerse yourself as much as possible every time you study, and challenge yourself to listen to, read, and even say things in English that you think might be too difficult for you. If you want to speak English fluently, you need to make it an essential part of your everyday life.

♥3. Stop Being a Student
The right attitude can make the difference between failure and success. Stop thinking of yourself as someone who is learning English, and start thinking of yourself as someone who speaks English. It’s a small change, but it will make you feel more confident and help you to use the English you already know more effectively.

This also means you need to start thinking in English. If you want to say the word “apple” in English, for example, right now you probably think of the word in your native language first, and then try to think of the correct word in English. Instead, try imagining a picture of an apple, and then just think the English word “apple”. Real fluency happens when you stop mentally translating conversations.

♥4. Remember the Answer Is in the Question
Listen carefully when someone asks you a question in English and you’ll answer perfectly every time. English questions are like mirrors:

 Does he…..? Yes, he does.

 Can she….? Yes, she can.

 Is it….? Yes, it is.

If someone asks you a question and you’re not sure how to answer, start by thinking about the words used in the question. The person has already said most of the words you need to make your answer. Instead of just memorizing English grammar, start to look for patterns like this one. There are a lot of simple ways to “cheat” and make it easier to remember the right words.

♥5. Get More out of Listening
When most students listen to a native English-speaker, they focus on understanding what all the words mean. This is definitely important, but there is a lot more you can learn from listening. Try listening not just to what the words mean, but to how the person says them. Notice which words the person links together in a sentence, or when they say “ya” instead of “you.” Try to remember these details the next time you speak and your English will begin to sound more natural.

Easier said than done, right? When you listen to native English speakers, it can be hard to understand every single word that is spoken. They might use many words you don’t know, talk too fast or have a strong accent.

A fantastic way to practice careful, active listening is to start using FluentU. FluentU has a huge collection of real world English videos, so you can hear the English that people speak every day.

ফার্স্ট ইয়ারে থাকতে ইংলিশ মিডিয়ামের এক মেয়ে বাচ্চাকে ১০ মাস পড়িয়েছিলাম৷
বাইরের জগত সম্পর্কে বাচ্চা এতটাই না-ওয়াকিফ ছিল যে, আমাকে রীতিমতো ভাবনার মধ্যে ফেলে দিয়েছিল। ওর কাণ্ডজ্ঞান দেখে মনে মনে বলতাম, ‘অ্যামুন ক্যারে??’

প্রতিদিন পড়ানো শেষে হলে ফেরার সময় মাঝপথে আসতেই ল্যান্ডফোন থেকে কল করে বলত-
-Hey, thanks for teaching me!’
-‘You’re most welcome!’

একবার পড়াতে যেতে আধা ঘণ্টা লেইট করেছিলাম। বাচ্চা তো রেগেমেগে ফায়ার। দরজা ওপেন করেই ভারি গলায় জিজ্ঞেশ করল-
-‘Why are so late today?’
-‘I had to wait in traffic jam.
I stuck there for a while.’
নাবালিকা এবার কেমন যেন সন্দেহ নিয়ে বলল,
-Oh, who drove the car? You, or your driver?’

তিন নম্বর বাসে ঝুলতে ঝুলতে গিয়ে শুনি আমার একটা কার আছে। ড্রাইভারও। মহা মুশকিল!বললাম,

-‘Of course, my driver!’
-‘Where is your driver?’
-‘He’s waiting in the car below!’

পড়ানোর ফাঁকে লিখতে থাকা অবস্থায় জিজ্ঞেস করল,
-‘What’s your favorite automobile? Mercedes- Benz is my most favorite.
I just love it.'

সত্যি, আমি তখন পর্যন্ত জানতাম না ‘অটোমোবাইল’ মানে কার। গ্যারেজ-টাইপ কিছু একটা মনে করতাম-
যেখানে কার মেরামত করা হয়। লইজ্জা লাগে, কই থাইক্যা আইছি আমি।

একবার খুব ভোরবেলা ফোন করে বলল,
-‘Are your printer and scanner okay? My printer isn’t working well. If yours is ok, plz plz, print and bring some pictures of Justin Bieber . He’s my crush now. He’s just so cute, nah! Last night I dreamt that, he came to my bed and kissed on my neck. Isn’t it interesting?

তখন আমি মেসে থাকতাম। ল্যাপটপও কেনা হয়ে ওঠেনি। সেবার
আমাকে টিউশনটা রক্ষার্থে নীলক্ষেত
থেকে কাজটা সম্পাদন করিয়ে নিতে হয়েছিল।
নাবালিকার ধারনা ছিল সবারই পার্সোনাল প্রিন্টার, স্ক্যানার এইসব থাকে।

একবার ওকে লিখতে দিয়ে আমি আনমনে শিস বাজিয়ে ফেলেছিলাম। তৎক্ষণাৎ বলে বসল,
-'OMG! You’re so genius. I like this tune so much. You should be a musician. Yes, you must…! Plz, play it again.'

একদিন জিজ্ঞেস করল,
-‘Hey, how many GFs do you have?’
-‘None!’
-‘What!! Aren’t you 18? Now you’re lying with me, right??’

একবার জানতে চাইল,
-‘Do you drink cigarette?’ আমি হেসেই দিলাম
এবং ইনস্ট্যান্ট রিপ্লাই দিল,
-‘Sorry! Do you drink smoke??’
-‘No…!’
-‘Then why are your lips so black?
Lying again, right?’

অন্য একদিন ফিসফিসিয়ে জিগাইল,
-‘Hey, can you tell me why married people kiss on lips? My mom and Dad kiss only on my cheek.’
-‘OMG! How do you know this?’
-‘Yesterday I watched it out in youtube when my parents were asleep. Once I saw my uncle and aunt doing the same thing! Plz tell, plz! What do they get from lips?’

আমি প্রচণ্ড রাগের স্বরে বললাম,
-‘I don’t know! What’s wrong with you? Never ever ask such stupid questions, ok?
-‘What’s your problem? You guy is too stupid!
You know what I’m gonna be 18 after 6 years. Then, my mom will let me google everything, she promised!’

একবার ইতালিয়ান কি একটা খাবারের নাম
খাতায় লিখে জিজ্ঞেস করল,
- Do you like this?’
-‘What?’
-‘I asked, do you like this, or not?’
বিলিভ মি, আমি আগে কখনই ওই খাবারের নাম শুনিনি। সন্মান রক্ষার্থে বললাম,
-‘Yes, I like this so much. It’s my favorite.’
খুবই অবাক হল, এবং বলল,
-'What! You like this??
I hate this too much! You know what, you’re too bad in taste. Are you crazy? Forget this fu***ng food item. Never eat it. I can’t take its smell even, but you like this, nah!!’

নাবালিকা ডরেমন কার্টুনের কবলে পড়ে কথায়
হিন্দি ও ইংলিশ মিক্স করে ফেলত।

একবার আমার বেতনের টাকাটা গুনে বলল,
-‘Wow! Five thousands Rupees!
You earn so much! And now you wanna buy another car, right?’

একবার'Your Most Memorable Day' এর উপর Homework দিয়েছিলাম।

নাবালিকা লিখেছিল-
'Once our driver was in leave and I had to go to school on foot with my mom. It was the first time I walked for 20 minutes. And it is the most memorable day in my life.
It was a unique experience.
I was sweating too much but I enjoyed it a lot..........(to be continued)

টিউশন থেকে মেসে ফিরলেই ফ্রেন্ডরা শুনতে
চাইতো, বল তোর স্টুপিড স্টুডেন্টের খবর। রীতিমতো কৌতুক- আড্ডা হয়ে যেত।
সে কি হাসাহাসি!

সেবার কুরবানির ঈদের দিন নাবালিকা ফোন
করেই প্রচণ্ড উচ্ছ্বাস নিয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করল,
-‘Hey, how many cows and goats have you sacrificed? We did three oxen and eight goats!
You know what I’m so afraid of blood! But yet, I saw it! You enjoy bleeding, right? You’re too cruel!

নাবালিকা গ্রেড সিক্স থেকে গ্রেড সেভেনে উত্তীর্ণ হলে পরে ফোন দেবে বলে আমাকে ঝুলিয়ে রাখে। অনেকদিন আশায় ছিলাম জানেন তো! ফোন কিন্তু দেয়নি।
পড়ানোও হয়ে ওঠেনি আর! ঢাকায় সব টিউশন
নাকি এভাবেই চলে যায়। ফোন দেবে বলে,
কিন্তু আর দেয়না! কথা সত্য।
নাম্বার থাকলেও গত তিন বছরে কখনও
যোগাযোগ হয়নি! আমিই কল দেইনি। ঐযে বললাম,
আশায় ছিলাম। আমি কেন দেব? কত স্টুডেন্ট
এলো, গেল!

আজ দুপুরে হঠাৎ নাবালিকার ফোন পেয়ে চমকে উঠলাম। বললাম,
-‘হেই, আমার কথা তোমার মনে আছে?’
-‘Of course আছে! তুমি কি জানো আমরা হোল ফ্যামিলি তোমার সাথে কন্টাক্ট করার জন্য কতভাবে ট্রাই করেছি। তোমার নাম্বারটা আম্মুর যে মোবাইলে সেইভড ছিল সেটা নিউমার্কেট থেকে ছিনতাইকারী নিয়ে গেছে। আব্বু
তোমার মেসেও গিয়েছিল, বাট কোন লাভ হয়নি।
আজই তোমাকে এফবিতে খুঁজে পেলাম।
I collected your number from there. আগেও অনেকবার সার্চ করেছি কিন্তু পাইনি। জানো, তোমার নাম ও স্পেলিংটা অলওয়েজ রিমেম্বার করার জন্য ওই সিক্স লেটারকে আমি আমার ইমেইল ও এফবি পাসওয়ার্ড করে রেখেছি।
