In a space where voices rise, ideas clash, and perspectives compete, we often forget that the heart of debate is not victory, but understanding. Buddha Purnima reminds us of something essential, that true wisdom lies in balance, in listening as deeply as we speak, and in seeking truth beyond ego.

At BRAC University Debate Club, every motion we engage with is an opportunity to practice this mindfulness. To question without hostility, to disagree without disrespect, and to pursue clarity with calm and compassion. Debate, at its best, is not noise, it is thoughtful dialogue shaped by awareness and restraint.

On this Buddha Purnima, we celebrate not just enlightenment, but the discipline of thoughtful speech, the courage to reflect, and the humility to learn.

May our arguments be sharper, but our minds remain peaceful.

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐡𝐚 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚!

On 1886, May 1st in Haymarket affair in Chicago, laborers rose up against this very exploitation and repression. Bringing forward a change we honor on this day.

We come together today to celebrate the sacrifices and courage of all those who are the very backbone of our society.

If you enjoy the 8 hour workday, a sufficient worklife balance and an affordable salary, then you have May Day to thank. The May day protest resulted in the creation of landmark systems of the 8 hour 5 day workweek with fair wages, something that is essential to modern life today. However today, the chains that once shackled the working class are once again being present, with many denied their minimum rights and big corporations are once again subjecting workers to exploitation. The Debate Club has always stood for fairness to everyone through its productive discussions on how to ensure a fairer standard living for everyone. So we urge everyone else too to always be conscious of these and protest for their rights.

After all, we have nothing to lose but our chains

Here’s to May Day!

Debating is not just about speaking, it is about thinking ahead, anticipating arguments, and responding before your opponent even finishes their case. If you have ever wondered how experienced debaters seem to always stay one step ahead, this session is where you begin to understand that mindset.

This session will focus on one of the most crucial skills in debating: preemptive thinking. It will guide you through argumentation, prep time strategy, case building and rebuttals, and how to deliver effective extensions.

Today, on the 90th birth anniversary of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, we remember a leader who transformed compassion into systems, and vision into institutions.
He stood for dignity over charity, empowerment over dependency, and action over rhetoric. Through BRAC, he showed the world that sustainable change demands discipline, courage, and an unwavering belief in people, especially women and marginalized communities.
As a debate club, we are inspired by his commitment to critical thinking, evidence-based solutions, and moral responsibility. We hope to carry forward his mission by nurturing leaders who question deeply, speak responsibly, and act with purpose.

True tribute is not in words, but in the institutions and impact we build.

Just like Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen riding down that endless road, we really wish our “Retro Bangla Movie”orientation night didn’t have to end! On April 9th, our theatre room turned into a total vintage dream. We blended the classic charm of the "Shonali Din" with all the fresh energy of our latest club chapter.
The event kicked off with some great opening words from “Registrar Dave Dowland” and our ”Advisor Shahed Alam”, who set the vibe for everything we’ve got planned this semester. Things got official as the outgoing panel took their final bow, introduced the “New Panel” and announced the “Director Body” promotions.
The absolute highlight? A scene straight out of a classic movie: “The Passing of the Sword”⚔️. It was such a cinematic moment as the legacy and responsibility of the club were handed over with the kind of gravity you only see in the hero’s climax. 🗡️📽️ The rest of the evening was pure entertainment:
🗣️ The Debate: A sharp battle of words that kept everyone hooked.
🎨 Pictionary: Total chaos and laughs as the audience took over the game!
🎶 The Music: Hearing the whole room chanting "Tumi" together was a huge vibe. 🎤We also introduced our “Equity Panel”to make sure our club stays a welcoming space for everyone. Of course, we couldn't wrap up without a group photo and a “Big Fat Treat"

To all the newcomers: This journey is just starting and we hope this path with you never ends just like that ride of that movie. Welcome to the team! Let’s make this semester a total classic. 📜 🎬❤️

𝐃𝐑𝐌𝐂 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐒 𝐗𝐈𝐕 2026 was organized by the 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 at Dhaka Residential Model College on 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 & 𝟏𝟏𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥. This Inter Club 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 (𝐁𝐏) tournament hosted 𝟑𝟔 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 from across the country, creating a fiercely competitive and intellectually vibrant arena.

Amidst this high-caliber competition, 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐜 𝟐 delivered exceptional performances throughout the tournament, culminating in a well-deserved victory in the 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬.

A special shoutout to 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐣𝐞𝐞, who was named 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥, showcasing remarkable clarity, composure, and dominance on the biggest stage.

Adding to this incredible achievement, 𝐊𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐚𝐫 𝐓𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐳𝐮𝐦𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐚𝐛𝐡𝐚 secured the 𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 ranking, while 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐣𝐞𝐞 ranked as the 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫, a testament to their consistency and excellence across rounds.

With a rich legacy, intense competition, and a stage that has shaped generations of debaters, this victory highlights not just talent, but dedication and growth at the highest level of national debating.
