In October 2020, several analysts talked about making stimulus loans collateral-free for small businesses at a virtual dialogue on “post-pandemic state of cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises (CMSMEs). The Citizen’s Platform for SDGs Bangladesh, a platform of non-state individuals, their networks and associates and the Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) jointly organized the meeting.
Speakers unanimously stated that the central bank should make lending to pandemic-hit CMSMEs collateral-free to help aid in their financial growth as many of them are struggling to survive due to shortage of finances. They added that Bangladesh Bank should have asked banks not to demand any collaterals when it announced the Tk 20,000 crore stimulus package so that a significant number of CMSMEs could avail such loans.
Syed Nasim Manzur, managing director of Apex Footwear Ltd and a core group member of the Citizen’s Platform for SDGs said, “The central bank should have taken care a lot earlier to help CMSMEs overcome the COVID-19 fallout. The government should have given subsidies on VAT, tax, utilities, factory and office rents during this difficult period.” Debapriya Bhattacharya, convenor of the Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh and a distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy dialogue said, “Studies show that the units that availed the money from the fund have benefited. The CMSMEs are lagging because their voices were not raised strongly with the government’s decision-making level. Alternatives should have also been thought about a lot earlier as many enterprises have been doing business while remaining unbanked.”
Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun asked banks to distribute collateral-free loans to the CMSMEs as the enterprises play significant roles in the national economy.
There are7.6 million CMSMEs in Bangladesh, of which 99.84% are privately owned. 80% of the industrial employment in the country occurs through CMSMEs. This employment accounts for about 50% of the total employment in Bangladesh. Tk 59,292 crore is available in the form of loans for CMSMEs under different categories. From the Tk 20,000 crore stimulus package for the CMSMEs, Tk 4,120 crores (20.5%) was distributed among 11,183 CMSMEs. Tk 1,060 crores was distributed from another stimulus package of Tk 3,000 crores.
Many CMSMEs have shut down their businesses because of high rents. It would have been better if the government announced stimulus packages in consultation with other stakeholders so that all units get the fund properly. Several entrepreneurs called for involving NGOs, microfinance institutions and local chambers so that the real victims could be identified and the funds can be disbursed on time. Many CMSMEs need a temporary source tax waiver and district chambers should introduce help desks for CMSMEs to secure the funds.
Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, ahonorary professor of economics at the University of Dhaka, said, “There should be an updated database of the CMSMEs so that every unit can avail can avail funds easily from any future funds received.” Shams Mahmud, president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “There is a perception that the money from such stimulus packages is free. People should change their mentalities as it is a loan, just at a lower interest rate. Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun committed to prepare a database for the CMSMEs.
None of the members of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services received loans from the stimulus packages as IT companies cannot provide any collateral as they do not have physical assets that can be mortgaged.

If you have a computer and internet, you must have heard the name of AMD. It was something dream of post 90's kids. Some Ex-engineers from Intel Corporation joined, and AMD was started. It's the first company that introduced us to some dream words like Gaming Computer. Before that, few people cared for such a computer. But AMD made something beyond the dream, and we felt that we indeed need a well-equipped computer to play games perfectly.
Advanced Micro Device (AMD) was formed on 1 May 1969, in Sunnyvale, California, United States. It was a company that added some new pace in the microchip industry. But microchip, microprocessors, and these technologies were something Intel Corporation was always good at making. They brought these things first to market, so they always had a competitive advantage. AMD had to work hard to compete with them.
After some success in 2000- 2004, AMD lost its way somehow. They always had some issues with their product like overheating, unstable performance, reliability, and many more. Again, being the first son in the family, Intel always had some advantages. But AMD had to struggle a lot to face reality.
In 2013-2014, AMD saw its worst days ever. Their stock price was just lower than ever, and a rumour that AMD would be bankrupted soon.
8 October 2014. Some AMD engineers felt for their one of former collogue in some past institutions, Dr. Lisa Su. This energetic Second-Generation Asian Lady was declared the first female CEO of AMD. She graduated from MIT with a major in Electrical Engineering. During her freshman year, she worked on a research project for microchips. Then she chose her path about this way of carrier. She worked for 20 years at different companies before AMD. And her presence has made a new history.
AMD officially announced a new series of processors, named "Ryzen," during its New Horizon summit on 13 December 2016 and introduced Ryzen 1000 series processors in February 2017, featuring up to 8 cores and 16 threads, which launched on 2 March 2017. This was a game-changing moment in the world of Microchips. In the world of many-core powered processors made by Intel, AMD realized that thread was something also mattered. And their experience with strong integrated GPU (igpu) right built-in with processor made the microprocessor game more interesting. And they surprisingly offered a way lot cheaper price than intel competitors. In 2020, they are the king of the microprocessor market with their 5000 series processors and 6000 series graphics cards.
If you ask yourself how a company that nearly bankrupted two years ago made a drastic comeback just after that, you may dream of many solutions. But it was only Lisa who made it possible. She was a technical guy. So, she jumped personally into AMD product issues and made them a goldmine. And her business & marketing strategy has taken AMD to a new level. We wish you a very great success for this lady.

If you’ve already read our earlier part about cloud computing, then you’re welcome. But if you haven't yet, please check that first. It will clear your vision properly about this topic.
“Necessity is the mother of all creativity”
- Akio Morita Sony, Co-founder of Sony Corporation, Japan
Believe it or not, we all do cloud computing almost at every moment. The development world has seen in cloud computing during this corona pandemic period is just way beyond than ever. It’s all because of our necessity. We made it because we needed it.
Corporations, workplaces are made to work together. Then comes the part of different ecosystem software. They’ve helped to do everything virtually that we do physically. From meeting to project development & resource sharing, everything is easier than ever.
Even the concept is now such strong that many big corporations have closed their physical activity in workplaces and have taken it totally online. Microsoft corporation has developed a system where you are the new office. Even in our country Grameenphone have tried to follow this culture and they’ve gone a lot for this
All just you need to do is to connect to a system, with a monthly subscription fee. Then you can carry the workplace with you anytime. It has also worked for our personal development. Now we have more time for thyself. It has developed our mental health also though it’s a debatable topic. But we are still wondering and waiting for new addition in cloud computing every day.
