History and influence
The school was established in 1965 and follows the traditional Secondary School Certificate (SSC) curriculum with the medium of teaching being Bangla. There is intense competition during the admission process and a large proportion of the applicants are rejected. Many of the graduates from the school become leaders and notable personnel of the country. It is the one of the prestigious schools in the city, despite having logistical problems. Most who graduate from here do well in other areas of life.

The school enrolls students from class (grade) 1 up to 10. In each shift, there generally exists two sections in each class (grade). The sections tend to comprise 40 to 50 students apiece. Usually about 200 students appear SSC each year from the school, with about third-fourth in science, and the rest in commerce.

The former students of DGBHS are known as DExSAn (sometimes referred to DBoyz), a phrase which was initially proposed by DGBHS Ex-Students Association (DExSA) just before its wider acceptance. DExSA, however, is the alumni association of the institution. Sports and extra curriculums. Our school is very powerful in sports.In a year on the February month our school's sport competition starts.There are many kind of sports.suchas,100 to 400 meters race.long jump,high jump and many more for kids.Who wins the race they got prize from the chief guests. Scouts,BNCC & Red Crescents. Dhanmondi Government Boys' High School is a good school.
