The current committee members of the SPE Student Chapter gathered together for the much-anticipated annual meeting with a few honorable guests on 9 March 2026. The occasion was honored by the presence of Mohammad Sajjadul Islam Fahim, Lecturer and SPE President (2020–21), and Mohammad Solaiman, Lecturer and SPE President (2021–22). We were also privileged to welcome our esteemed faculty advisor, Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan.

Their presence made the event especially meaningful, providing members with the opportunity to interact with respected mentors and former leaders of the chapter. The evening reflected the spirit of unity, collaboration, and continuity within the SPE community

Happy International Mother Language Day!

We, from SPE Dhaka University Student Chapter, pay heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of 21st February and celebrate the beauty, diversity, and dignity of all mother languages.

An engaging seminar was hosted featuring Dr. Hermann Kudrass from the University of Bremen, Germany. Held on 29 January 2026 at the Professor M. A. Latif Auditorium, Department of Geology, University of Dhaka. The session explored how sediments from the Ganges and Brahmaputra are transported and distributed into the Bay of Bengal.

Drawing on global experience with regional relevance, the talk shed light on the mechanisms shaping our coasts and deltas—linking river dynamics, marine processes, and long-term landscape evolution. An insightful hour that strengthened our understanding of Bangladesh’s delta system and its significance for coastal science and management.

The SPE Dhaka University Student Chapter participated in the Career Fest & Research Festival, organized by the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the Kazi Motahar Hossain Bhaban premises, University of Dhaka. The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, PhD, and the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir, along with students, faculty members, and representatives from various national and professional organizations.

All the chapters of the Department of Geology had a stall at the event, where we, as the SPE chapter, actively participated. At the stall, we showcased our activities, introduced visitors to our chapter, and distributed informational leaflets.

Stalls were also set up by the other four departments, Oceanography, Disaster Science and Climate Resilience, Meteorology, and Geography and Environment, where students showcased study-related materials, academic activities, and discipline-specific exhibits. Students from all five departments actively participated in poster presentation sessions, highlighting their research and academic work.

In addition, stalls from several organizations were featured at the event, including the Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil Defence, SPARRSO, Geological Survey of Bangladesh, Survey of Bangladesh, Caritas, Action Against Hunger, Plan International Bangladesh, USB Certification, Web Soft BD, and others.

The program concluded with a cultural event featuring performances by students from the five departments.
