Dhaka Achik (garo) Cultural Academy Foundation

ladesh is known as Achik people. Since more than 100 years ago these Garos have their own religion & Culture. From long time Achik people practicing Azia, Rere, Katha Dakka, Serenging as their valuable cultural asset. Besides the Achil Songs which they collect from their ancestor. This Traditional songs & dance was part of Achik people’s daily activity. They express their life style, activities, sorrow & happiness by these songs. They arrange a song competition with all aged people in special food feasible. Aduru, Rang, Khram, Dama etc. are common musical instrument of Achik. After converted to Christian, the foreign missionary are decries not to use this musical instrument because this musical instrument are like symbol of evils. For that reason the achik people are stop using these musical instrument. In the 2nd meeting at Vatican City permitted to continue these music, but they doesn’t go so fur because of the difference between Christian culture & Achik culture. Though 99% of Achik are Christian so they should maintain by Christian culture. In the time of Riot 1964, Levitation War, 1971 & Kadir war, 1975 the Achik people bound to go India for their safety. In this way the Achik people are attract politically again & again causes the damage of economy. That time many Achik people never return from India. Some Achik return but they lost everything including their home even their culture. They struggle to live in this situation, they lose their daily activity, culture & they are also tortured by other people. To live a good life they left their hills, village & community to city they face lot of problem. To survive the Achik have to leave their language, culture, regulation. To save this Achik people & their culture, The Achik Cultural Academy is working from 6 years. By this time we perform more than 150 shows in various places in Bangladesh and also in India to save our achik cultural & song. Every year we publish Achik magazine. We also start Achik School for achik education, cultural academy for achik song & dance. We are going forward with a hope of good future. But we have not sufficient money & place to perform all activities of Achik Cultural Academy. We are thankful all the people who are interested to help us financially to go forward with our future dream.
