COMMON ***MISTAKES*** IN THE ECONOMICS EXAM
Many times, students are told that, “You will make this mistake,” and lo and behold! They make the EXACT same mistake!!!
1. One of them involves interpreting graphs.

L.E.C TOP TIP – COMMON ***MISTAKES*** IN THE ECONOMICS EXAM
Many times, students are told that, “You will make this mistake,” and lo and behold! They make the EXACT same mistake!!!
1. One of them involves the definitions relating to trade balances (Section D, IGCSE). For example: “What is a trade deficit”? [2 marks]
Common answer is – A trade deficit means that imports are more than exports. This is PARTIALLY correct, so gets only one mark. The full answer is – A trade deficit means that the VALUE of VISIBLE imports is more than the VALUE of VISIBLE exports OVER A PERIOD OF TIME.
Think Smart. Think L.E.C

L.E.C top tip: Accounting – Income Statement & Balance Sheet
Most students lose marks in Income Statement and Balance Sheet question because they pay insufficient attention to the notes at the end of the question.
SOLUTION: Read the question carefully - the trick is to understand the notes at the end of the trial balance. As soon as you read a note – make a small comment next to it as to how an item in the trial balance needs to be adjusted.
EXAMPLE: A motor van purchased during the year for £20 000 has been included in the motor expenses account. [June 2011].
Sample comments:
1. Motor expenses -20,000.
2. Motor Van = +20,000.
3. Depreciation (van) = (50,000 + 20,000) x 25%

IGCSE ENGLISH: SECTION C
This part has 35 marks, and the marking is divided into 25 marks for development, paragraphing, style, vocabulary and sentence variation; and 10 marks for grammar, spelling and punctuation.
(Skipping some details about the marking scheme)……. you can be sure that unless you correctly use hyphens, semi-colons, colons, apostrophes and speech marks, you WILL NOT get more than 2 or 4 out of 10 (see picture no. ).
It DOESN’T matter how good your story, grammar and vocabulary is. You WILL NOT get more than 2 or 4 out of 10.

TIRED OF MEMORISING WORD-LISTS?
Have you notices that it hardly pays to memorise “selected” words, because they rarely pop-up in your head at the time of writing?
They ‘don’t say practice makes perfect’ for the sake of it. Practice DOES make perfect. So, if you want to effectively use a new, fancy word in your writing, then you need to write a LOT of practice sentences with that word, and get it checked by your teacher.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHEN TO USE HYPHENS?
Example 1: in “compound adjectives”. Compound adjectives are adjectives which are composed of more than one word, such as well-to-do (he comes from a well-to-do family).
Example 2: to enumerate the items in a group. I like to play three sports – football, table tennis and lawn tennis. Two of the players became injured – Bergkamp and Henry.

EDEXCEL IGCSE ECONOMICS: USE OF EXAMPLES
Many short questions of 2-4 marks each require students to give examples if they want maximum marks. BUT, the question does not explicitly ask for any example. Thus, many students miss out on these easy marks.
Solution: Learn or think of practical examples and applications of economic concepts BEFORE the exam and include them when solving past papers.
Example: What are externalities? (2 marks).
Majority answer includes only the definition: spill-over costs of economic activities
Good answers include a definition – e.g., air pollution

DO YOU FIND CHEMISTRY ***CONFUSING***? IS IT JUST A BIG ***PAIN***??? PART 2
GETTING USED TO THE STYLE OF THE QUESTION PAPER is the most important part. When students get used to the question paper, they will be able to analyze the situations in questions with ease.
The teacher looks forward to achieving this through practice, using a three-step approach as explained below:
a) TAKING CHAPTER-WISE TESTS FROM THE QUESTION PAPER: at the end of each and every chapter taught in class, the teacher will select questions from the question papers relevant to those chapters in a test. The teacher will also give hints and clues via the Facebook group. Learning is the main goal, not the marks. [See picture #5]
b) COMPLETING WORKSHEETS ON SELECTED CHAPTERS: it’s a compilation of questions from the question paper on relevant chapters. These worksheets will be solved in class.
c) Mock Examinations: this is the final step. [See picture #6]
After doing all these, only one question remains. Is there any chance for a normal student to do badly in IGCSE Chemistry?
Answer: No!!!
