Reposted from Building a quality following on Instagram is intense.
It does require a massive amount of effort to do it right.
But what are some of those metrics that are used to judge what a quality following is from a poor following?
It’s engagement rate (ER for short).
It’s calculated by the total engagement (likes, comments, saves, shares, etc) divided by the number of followers. Also, I will add that it is dependent on your following size, so new accounts or accounts with smaller followings may see higher engagement than what’s listed below.
Typically, for accuracy, this is calculated using your latest 15-20 posts.
If you’re doing a superb job, you’re north of 6%.
If you’ve used automation and got a ton of fake followers, your engagement is probably less than 1%.
If you want to increase your engagement rate, you can do a number of things
- Remove dead / ghost followers
- Make better content
- Increase your outbound engagement (authentically)
- Be more active in the DM’s
- Drive users to your profile to view your other content
- Show up on stories daily
- Really nail your last 20 posts
Knowing these ratios and where your account sits is critical if you want to grow a health online business using Instagram.
