The Innovation Cohort is a hands-on, mentor-driven program where interdisciplinary student teams will:

โข Validate ideas using design thinking & lean startup methods
โข Build prototypes or MVPs
โข Pitch solutions with industry relevance and commercialization potential

Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE), BUET, in collaboration with GPH Ispat Ltd., successfully organized the Intellectual Property Management Workshop titled โIntellectual Property Commercialization and Technology Transfer: Unlocking the Value of Innovation in Bangladesh.โ
The event was honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. A. S. M. A. Haseeb, Head of the Department of Nanomaterials and Ceramic Engineering, as Chief Guest; Sharmin Sultan, Chief People Officer of GPH Group, and Brigadier General Md Towhid Hossain, Advisor โ Business Development (Defence & Large Corporate), as representatives from GPH Ispat Ltd.; and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam, Director of RISE, BUET, who presided over the program as Chair. The workshop featured three distinguished speakers: Dr. Mohidus Samad Khan, Director of the Institute of Appropriate Technology (IAT) and Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET, who delivered a session on โManaging Intellectual Property: The Role of the State and Organization in Innovationโ; Shaleh Akram Somrat, Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, who presented โPractical Insight on IP Infringement and Protection in Bangladeshโ; and Mr. Mirza Golam Sarwar, Deputy Director, Department of Patent, Industrial Design & Trademarks (DPIDT), Ministry of Industries, who discussed โStrengthening the IP Policy and Commercialization Ecosystem in Bangladesh: The Role of Patents in Driving Innovation.โ
The program focused on enhancing understanding of IP commercialization, supporting national policy alignment, and fostering industryโacademia collaboration to drive impactful and innovation-led development in Bangladesh.
