The students from the Department of Law at East West University attended the โ€œNational Dialogue to Observe World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2026โ€, organized jointly by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Counter-Trafficking Technical Working Group of the United Nations Migration Network, and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Bangladesh. The event was held on Thursday, 30 July 2026, at the Grand Ballroom of the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

The theme of the event was โ€œTrapped Behind the Scam: Ending Human Trafficking for Forced Criminality.โ€ The National Dialogue was attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international development partners, law enforcement agencies, academics, students, and members of the media. Ms. Nadia Rahaman, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Law at East West University, attended the event accompanied by five students from the Department of Law, namely Talha Jubayer, Koli Akter, Ramisha Nujhat, Khusbat Binte Ashraf and Tahsina Tabassum.

The Honourable Home Minister of Bangladesh, Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed, as a Chief Guest graced the event with his presence and delivered an address emphasizing the Governmentโ€™s unwavering commitment to preventing human trafficking and combating online syndicates. The National Dialogue was chaired by Mr. Monjur Morshed Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Shah Mohammad Nahian, Head of the UNODC Programme Office in Bangladesh, presented an overview of the theme for this yearโ€™s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The opening session concluded with the screening of an informative documentary.

Following the inaugural session, a working session featured a panel discussion titled, โ€œTrapped Behind the Scam: Addressing Trafficking for Forced Criminality, Deceptive Recruitment and Online Exploitation.โ€ The discussion was moderated by Tasnim Binte Karim, National Programme Coordinator for UNODC South Asia. The working session concluded with an open discussion, followed by a public awareness puppet show titled โ€œTrapped in Pursuit of a Better Life.โ€

East West University is proud to announce that it will represent Bangladesh at the 18th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition, to be held from 13 to 17 July 2026 at the United Nations Headquarter in Geneva, Switzerland. The Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition is one of the worldโ€™s premier international moot court competitions, bringing together outstanding law students from across the globe to debate contemporary human rights issues before distinguished jurists and legal scholars. Representing Bangladesh at this prestigious moot court competition is a matter of immense pride for the University and a significant milestone for its Department of Law.

The participating team from the Department of Law comprises Ms. Shagufta Chowdhury Adrita and Mr. Md. Salmun Alam, who will participate as oralists, under the guidance of Ms. Nur-A Ariya Alam, Lecturer, Department of Law, East West University, who will accompany the team as its Coach. Their participation in this globally renowned competition reflects not only their academic merit and advocacy skills but also the collective support and guidance of the Universityโ€™s leadership, faculty members, administrators, alumni, and well-wishers.

The Department of Law, East West University (EWU) delivered an outstanding performance at the International Conference on Evolving Refugee Protection Architectures in South Asia 2026 (ICERPASA 2026), held on 27 June 2026 at the Department of Law, University of Chittagong. The conference was organized by the Department of Law, University of Chittagong (HEAT Project, PIN-12211) in collaboration with the Bangladesh Center for Refugee Law Studies (BCRLS), with the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) serving as the strategic partner.

The conference featured two major academic segmentsโ€”Paper Presentation and Poster Presentationโ€”bringing together scholars, academics, practitioners, and students from across Bangladesh and abroad.

In the Paper Presentation segment, Ms. Oishe Rahman and Mr. Shaikh Mirazur Rahman, both faculty members of the Department of Law, East West University, presented their research papers.

The Department was also proudly represented by Radia Nowsin, a student of the Department of Law, East West University, who presented her research paper. Furthermore, two distinguished alumni of EWUDOLโ€”Md. Banyamin Abdullah and Kaushik Dutta also presented their joint research paper.
