Types of Footings || Civil Engineering with Jakaria

➥ī¸ Isolated Square Footing:
Isolated square footing is a type of footing that supports a single column or load point. It is usually square or rectangular in shape and designed to transmit the load to the soil without excessive settlement.

➥ī¸ Isolated Slope Footing:
Isolated slope footing is similar to isolated square footing, but it is designed to accommodate sloping ground conditions. The bottom of the footing is sloped to match the natural slope of the ground, providing stability and ensuring proper load transfer.

➥ī¸ Isolated Stepped Footing:
Isolated stepped footing is used when the column loads are significantly different. It consists of multiple levels or steps, each supporting a different load. This type of footing allows for the efficient distribution of loads to the soil while accommodating varying column loads.

➥ī¸ Strip Footing:
Strip footing, also known as continuous footing, is a long and narrow footing that supports a row of columns or walls. It runs continuously along the length of the structure, distributing the load over a larger area. Strip footings are commonly used in load-bearing walls and foundation systems.

➥ī¸ Rectangular Combined Footing: Rectangular combined footing is used when two or more columns are close together, and their individual footings would overlap. It is a combined footing that supports multiple columns and is rectangular in shape. This type of footing allows for the sharing of the load between the adjacent columns.

➥ī¸ Trapezoidal Combined Footing:
Trapezoidal combined footing is similar to rectangular combined footing but has a trapezoidal shape. It is used when the column loads are significantly different, and a rectangular footing would result in unequal load distribution. The trapezoidal shape helps distribute the load more evenly.

➥ī¸ Strap Footing:
Strap footing, also known as a connecting footing, is used to connect two or more column footings in a line. It consists of a strip footing that spans across the columns and connects them together. Strap footings are commonly used when there is limited space or when columns are located very close to property boundaries.

➥ī¸ Raft Footing:
Raft footing, also known as mat footing, is a large continuous footing that covers the entire area under a structure. It supports the load of the entire building and is used when the soil has low bearing capacity or when there is a potential for differential settlement. Raft footings distribute the load over a large area, reducing the overall pressure on the soil.

➥ī¸ Pile Footing:
Pile footing is a type of footing that utilizes deep foundation elements called piles. Piles are long, slender structural members that are driven or cast into the ground to support the load of the structure. Pile footings are used when the soil near the surface is weak.
