গত ২৩ এপ্রিল ২০২৬ তারিখে কক্সবাজারের কলাতলীর ব্র্যাক লার্নিং সেন্টারে কোলোকাল (COLOCAL) প্রজেক্টের আওতায় এই যুগান্তকারী কর্মশালার আয়োজন করে নির্মল বাংলাদেশ এবং ইন্ডিপেনডেন্ট ইউনিভার্সিটি, বাংলাদেশ (আইইউবি)।

উপকূলীয় অঞ্চলের প্রান্তিক জনগোষ্ঠীর ক্ষমতায়নের লক্ষ্যে আয়োজিত এই কর্মশালায় কৃষক, জেলে, নারী এবং যুবসমাজসহ মোট ৫০ জন স্থানীয় মানুষ ও আমন্ত্রিত অতিথিরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন। অনুষ্ঠানের সবচেয়ে আকর্ষণীয় দিক ছিল সাধারণ মানুষের সাথে সরকারের সেতুবন্ধন তৈরি করা। অংশগ্রহণকারীরা মৎস্য, কৃষি, যুব উন্নয়ন, সমাজসেবা এবং জেলা প্রশাসকের কার্যালয়ের দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত সরকারি কর্মকর্তাদের সাথে সরাসরি নিজেদের সমস্যা নিয়ে আলোচনা করার এবং তাৎক্ষণিক দিকনির্দেশনা পাওয়ার দারুণ এক সুযোগ পান।

মাঠ পর্যায়ের গবেষণার ফলাফল থেকে প্রাপ্ত তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে লবণাক্ততা মোকাবেলা, বিকল্প জীবিকা, আধুনিক কৃষি, মৎস্য সম্পদ ব্যবস্থাপনা এবং দুর্যোগ প্রস্তুতি সম্পর্কে সকলকে বাস্তবসম্মত ধারণা দেওয়া হয়। পাশাপাশি যুবসমাজ ও নারীদের জন্য সরকারি বিভিন্ন সুযোগ-সুবিধা ও ক্ষুদ্রঋণ নিয়েও বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করা হয়।

উপকূলীয় অঞ্চলের মানুষের জীবনমান উন্নয়ন এবং জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের প্রভাব মোকাবেলায় আমাদের এই সচেতনতামূলক প্রচেষ্টা ভবিষ্যতেও অব্যাহত থাকবে। অনুষ্ঠানটি সফল করার জন্য ড. কে আয়াজ রব্বানীর সভাপতিত্বে উপস্থিত সকল সরকারি কর্মকর্তা, গবেষক এবং অংশগ্রহণকারীদের জানাই অসংখ্য ধন্যবাদ।

Are you passionate about coastal ecosystems and field-based research? Nirmol Bangladesh is inviting applications from motivated individuals to join an ongoing international research project on eutrophication monitoring using the GEM-in-a-Box toolkit! This project focuses on assessing water quality, ecosystem health, and coastal resilience in the Sundarbans-adjacent areas.

Positions Available:
🔍 Volunteer Research Assistant (RA) - 02 positions
📋 Field Enumerator - 02 positions

📍 Field Locations: Khulna, Satkhira, and Bagerhat.
📅 Project Duration: 11 April 2026 – 10 July 2026. (Note: Field visits are required every weekend, Friday and Saturday, from 24 April to 30 May 2026).

🎓 Eligibility Criteria:
• Background in Oceanography, Environmental Science, Climate Science, or a related discipline.
• Strong interest in field-based research and coastal environments.
• Willingness to travel outside Dhaka on a regular basis.
• Commitment to the full project duration.

এই কোর্সে আপনি যা শিখবেন তার কিছু ঝলক: কোর্সে মোট ২০টি মডিউল অন্তর্ভুক্ত রয়েছে। এর মধ্যে রয়েছে জিআইএস ও রিমোট সেন্সিং এর মৌলিক ধারণা, জিআইএস ডেটা স্ট্রাকচার ও অ্যাট্রিবিউট, মানচিত্রের স্কেল ও প্রজেকশন পদ্ধতি, আর্কম্যাপে ব্যবহৃত বেসিক টুলস, জিও-রেফারেন্সিং, জিও-ডাটাবেস তৈরি ও ডিজিটাইজেশন, অ্যাট্রিবিউট টেবিল ব্যবস্থাপনা, মানচিত্র তৈরি ও প্রস্তুতি (Map Preparation),, এবং গুরুত্বপূর্ণ জিও-প্রসেসিং কৌশল (যেমন: ক্লিপ, মার্জ, বাফার ইত্যাদি)। এছাড়াও আপনি জিপিএস (GPS) এর ব্যবহার এবং গুগল আর্থ/গুগল ম্যাপ পরিচিতি সম্পর্কে জানবেন।

We are thrilled to announce that Md Washikur Rahman, student of Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) and Assistant Research Officer at Nirmol Bangladesh, has achieved remarkable success at both national and international levels.

📌 CCDB Climate Change Research Scholarship 2025 Washik has been awarded the prestigious CCDB Climate Change Research Scholarship for his outstanding proposal “Measuring the Potential Carbon Reserve Capacity of Seaweed”. His research highlights the role of seaweed in capturing ocean carbon and strengthening Bangladesh’s Blue Economy. His future endeavor will focus on genetic improvement of seaweed to enhance its carbon sequestration capacity and expand aquaculture for coastal livelihood development.

📌 Innovation World Cup 2026 – International Round Washik has also been selected for the international round of the Innovation World Cup 2026 to be held in Bandung, Indonesia. His groundbreaking project plan “Bioplastic from Shellfish Waste” introduces a zero-waste, climate-resilient packaging solution. This bioplastic will six times stronger than conventional plastic, fully biodegradable within 60–90 days, and has the potential to reduce marine microplastic pollution while creating a $1.7–2.1 billion market opportunity for Bangladesh.

On 21st November 2025, Nirmol Bangladesh has successfully organised a side event & discussion session on "Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building: Knowledge Sharing for Local Action" at the conference 'Environment & Changing Climate 2025' held at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).

The Session Chair was Dr. S. M. Mustafizur Rahman, (Assistant Professor, Dept of OCN, BMU).
And, Dr. K. Ayaz Rabbani (Associate Professor, Dept of ESM, IUB) was also present as the inaugural guest.

Two representatives of the fishermen community of Cox’s Bazar, respectively Humayun Kabir & Ziaul Karim were also present at the session & they have highlighted a gross figure of the various environmental issues the fishermen are facing in the Bay of Bengal during fishing.

The session room was full of enthusiastic youth & changemakers from diversified universities. The session has facilitated the exchange of research findings and practical experiences among different researchers and institutions working on climate change, ocean literacy, environmental conservation, disaster risk reduction, and community resilience building at the ground level. This has enriched the audience with
working knowledge and innovative insights, contributing to the conference's goal of generating actionable insights for environmental resilience and sustainable development.
