Siyam Ahmed, a student of the Department of English (Batch 17) at the University of Dhaka, has secured the Championship title in the Extempore Speech competition at the 12th Inter-University Student Conference & Cultural Competition, hosted by the Department of English and Humanities (DEH) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).

Held on August 13–14, 2026, the inter-university conference explored the theme "Money Talks: Consumerism and Capitalism in Literature and Language," convening student delegates from 27 public and private institutions across Bangladesh for academic research presentations, an art exhibition, a cosplay contest, and stage performances.

The Extempore Speech segment saw 27 contenders from 14 universities. Speakers were allotted a strict five-minute preparation window upon receiving their topic before delivering a five-minute impromptu address on socio-economic, literary, and cultural issues.

Siyam Ahmed took the top honor, while Kasfia Ahsan of United International University secured the Runner-Up position. Formal crests, certificates, and monetary awards were conferred by ULAB Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shamsad Mortuza, PhD, alongside Special Guest Dr. Azfar Hussain and external panel evaluators.

S. M. Hozaifa Hossain, a final-year student from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at the University of Dhaka, has secured a top-three placement at the global IEEE TCAD Hackathon 2026 organized by the IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS). Representing the Emerging Nanoscale Devices (END) Research Group, this milestone marks Bangladesh's fifth major international recognition from IEEE EDS.

Dr. Shekh Md Mahmudul Islam, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Dhaka and currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Duke Postdoctoral Award for Professional Development.

Administered by the Duke Office of Postdoctoral Services (OPS) alongside the Office for Research & Innovation, the program selected its 2026 awardees following an application cycle that concluded on February 11, 2026, with official announcements made on March 11, 2026. The competitive award provides up to $1,000 in direct reimbursement funding aimed at accelerating postdoctoral career advancement through conference travel, workshop participation, and academic review activities.

Dr. Shekh Md Mahmudul Islam, a Senior Member of IEEE, earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2020 after completing both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Dhaka. He joined Duke University's research division in August 2024. He will utilize this grant to facilitate his ongoing technical program committee roles and publication contributions across IEEE international conferences and symposiums.

We are immensely proud to share that Amrin Nahar Haque Godhuly, from the 2019–20 session of the Department of Nuclear Engineering, University of Dhaka, has been awarded the prestigious IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) to pursue her Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, beginning this September.

Politecnico di Milano stands among the world’s leading technological universities, currently ranked 20th globally in Engineering & Technology in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026.

Adding another remarkable achievement to her journey, Amrin has also been selected to attend the International Nuclear Security School in Mito, Japan, jointly hosted by ISCN, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), and MEXT. From a pool of more than 300 IAEA fellows worldwide, only 25 participants have been selected for this year’s programme, with travel allowance and living stipend provided to support their participation.

It is indeed a moment of immense pride for the University of Dhaka to see one of its graduates representing the university on such prestigious international platforms.

A team from the University of Dhaka has secured 1st Place (Best Video Award) in the national-level "Breaking Her Economic Barriers: Digital Advocacy Innovation Challenge 2026," organized by Save the Children in Bangladesh in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The team stood out among 20 youth teams from across Bangladesh with an advocacy video highlighting socioeconomic inclusion and career empowerment for women with disabilities.
