The TEER 2 and TEER 3 occupations eligible for the Spouse Open Work Permit (SOWP) have been released. Here's a breakdown of the job categories under the new regulations:

🔧 TEER 2 Occupations
🛠️ Engineering & Technological Roles:
• Aircraft instrument, electrical, and avionics mechanics, technicians, and inspectors (22313)
• Industrial instrument technicians and mechanics (22312)
• Electronic service technicians (household and business equipment) (22311)
• Electrical and electronics engineering technologists and technicians (22310)
• Construction estimators (22303)

🏥 Health & Safety:
• Licensed practical nurses (32101)
• Occupational health and safety specialists (22232)
• Other technical occupations in therapy and assessment (32109)

🐾 Medical & Veterinary Roles:
• Medical laboratory technologists (32120)
• Animal health technologists and veterinary technicians (32104)

🛠️ Trades & Construction Supervisors:
• Contractors and supervisors, electrical trades, and telecommunications occupations (72011)
• Industrial electricians (72201)
• Welders and related machine operators (72106)

🩺 TEER 3 Occupations
❤️ Health Support Roles:
• Dental assistants and laboratory assistants (33100)

PGWP holders and other eligible work permit holders with at least 16 months remaining can now apply for SOWP under these new guidelines.

The government of Canada is now implementing greater restrictions on work permits for family members of international students and foreign workers, after having first announced these changes in September of 2024.
Effective January 21, 2025, family open work permits (OWPs) for international students will be restricted to the spouses or common-law partners of students currently enrolled in:
- Master’s programs that are 16 months or longer in duration;
- Doctoral programs; or
- Selected professional and eligible programs (listed below).

Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor
Doctor of Medicine
Doctor of Optometry
Pharmacy.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Bachelor of Education.

- Students participating in one of the eligible pilot programs administered by a province or territory. There is currently only one eligible pilot program through the province of Quebec, targeting foreign-trained Nurses.
