In-House Training Program on Civil Engineering Labs

The Department of Civil Engineering, European University of Bangladesh (EUB) is pleased to announce the commencement of our In-House Training Program for all Civil Engineering laboratory officials, lab in-charges and other faculty members.

This initiative is designed to strengthen technical knowledge, promote cross-lab learning and ensure that every laboratory official becomes familiar with the operation and management of all Civil Engineering labs. Through this training, we aim to build a more skilled, versatile and quality-driven team.

The Department of Civil Engineering, European University of Bangladesh (EUB), successfully organized an educational tour to the Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI). The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to modern construction techniques, innovative materials, and ongoing research in the field of civil engineering.

During the tour, students had the opportunity to explore various laboratories, research facilities, and demonstration projects at HBRI. They gained valuable insights into sustainable construction practices, housing technologies, and quality control methods that are essential for addressing real-world engineering challenges. The interactive sessions with experts further enriched the learning experience, allowing students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

The tour was highly informative and inspiring for the students, helping them better understand the role of research and innovation in the development of the construction sector in Bangladesh. Such initiatives play a crucial role in shaping competent and industry-ready civil engineers.

The Department of Civil Engineering, EUB, extends its sincere gratitude to the Director General of HBRI for granting permission and facilitating this educational visit. On July 3rd, the Department of Civil Engineering, European University of Bangladesh (EUB) proudly hosted its 2nd consecutive Gala Dinner, bringing together the graduating 32nd Batch (Evening) and 29th Batch (Day), esteemed faculty members, alumni, and distinguished guests for an evening of celebration, recognition, and togetherness.

The occasion was graced by the Honourable Vice-Chancellor of European University of Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Md. Ghulam Murtaza sir, along with Treasurer sir Md. Mosharaf Hossain Sarker, Registrar sir Dr. S. M. Zobayer Enamul Karim, the respected Chairmen of the Departments of EEE, IPE, and CSE and Director of Student Affairs, Md. Emdadul Haque sir. Their inspiring presence and encouraging words made the evening even more memorable for the graduating students.

The programme was presided over by the respected Chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, whose continuous guidance and unwavering support have played a vital role in strengthening the department and fostering a culture of academic excellence. The event was hosted by faculty member Md. Asif Ahmed.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Best Student Awards, recognizing outstanding academic achievement from both the Day and Evening batches. The recipients were:

* Md. Mazedul Islam Mehed – 1st Position (Day Batch) with a CGPA of 3.90
* Md. Tahidur Islam – 1st Position (Evening Batch) with a CGPA of 3.99

Their dedication, perseverance, and exceptional academic performance stand as an inspiration to both current and future students of the department.

The Department of Civil Engineering proudly reaffirms its commitment to continuing this tradition in every upcoming semesters.

''Department of Civil Engineering, EUB, Successfully Organized a Two-Day Practical Workshop on “Water Sampling and Quality Assessment of River Water”

The Department of Civil Engineering, European University of Bangladesh, successfully conducted a two-day practical workshop on “Water Sampling and Quality Assessment of River Water” from 30 June to 01 July 2026, with the active participation of 30 students.
On the first day, Md. Abdullah Al Arafat, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, EUB, delivered a presentation on water quality parameter categories, proper water sample collection procedures, storage, and preservation with appropriate protocol standards followed by the EPA, which led to a visit to the Turag River, where students gained practical exposure to river water sampling.
On the second day, Rubinoor Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, EUB, conducted a technical session on the Water Quality Index (WQI), in which students learned about parameter selection, standards, weighting, computation, and water quality classification.
The students expressed that the workshop helped them connect classroom learning with real-world river water sampling and quality assessment practices. They also shared that such practical field-based activities build confidence, improve technical understanding, and prepare them for professional environmental engineering work.
At the closing session, Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering at EUB, along with respected faculty members, distributed certificates to the participants. The Chairman appreciated the students' active participation. He assured that the Department of Civil Engineering will continue to encourage such practical, research-oriented, and field-based academic activities to support students' professional development.

🏛️ Educational Visit to the Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI)

The Department of Civil Engineering, European University of Bangladesh (EUB), is pleased to announce an educational visit to the Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI) on 5 July 2026.

Under the guidance of Rubaiyet Hafiza Mam, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, EUB, and former Research Fellow at HBRI for six years, this visit will provide students with an exceptional opportunity to explore HBRI's state-of-the-art research facilities, discover cutting-edge innovations in Bangladesh's housing and construction sector, and gain valuable insights into the research initiatives and professional contributions that have shaped the institute's progress.

By bridging academic learning with research and innovation, this initiative aims to inspire future civil engineers through knowledge, practical exposure, and professional engagement.

The Department of Civil Engineering is organizing a two-day hands-on workshop on the banks of the Turag River, offering students practical experience in water quality assessment. The workshop will be conducted by Assistant Professors Rubinoor Islam Swarna and Md. Abdullah Al Arafat, who will guide participants through the procedures for water sample collection, water quality assessment and the selection of appropriate analytical methods based on the Water Quality Index (WQI) approach.
This practical training aims to equip students with essential field and laboratory skills while strengthening their understanding of water quality monitoring and environmental assessment. The workshop will be held for the Day Batch students from (3/2) to (4/3).

The department of Civil engineering is organizing an educational tour to Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI) for the students of regular batch (Batch- 37th, 36th and 35th). The Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI), is a premier government research institution in Bangladesh, widely recognized for its pioneering work in sustainable construction, innovative building materials, and resilient infrastructure systems. In addition to learning about alternative building technologies based on civil engineering projects, the visit would broaden the students' understanding of how these technologies are used in real-world situations.

Department of Civil Engineering bids farewell to batch 31st (Evening) and 28th (Regular) by concluding their thesis defense. The groups showcased their diverse ideas in five sub branches of Civil Engineering. The three day defense program was held from 16th to 19th June. All the best to the future engineers.
