Congratulations Bangladesh Football Team for going through to FIFA World Cup Round 2.

The Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Northern University Bangladesh, organized Research Exhibition, Fall 2023, at the campus today, 14 October 2023.

The students were very enthusiastic to display their research and project works to the audience, and thus creating an eagerness for similar activities among the juniors.

Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor, NUB, graced the event with his presence. His thoughtful guidance encouraged the participants to improve their research works for the betterment of the society as well as the socio-economic development of the country.

It is our immense pleasure to inform you all that Ms. Samina Afrin, Lecturer, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Northern University Bangladesh, was awarded Academic Genius Award on 11 October 2023.

Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University awards this honour to the most meritorious students of B.Sc. (Engineering)/B.Sc. (Hons)/BBA, BSS (Hons)/B.Pharm level. Professor Dr.Muhammad Alamgir, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, spoke as the chief guest on the occasion with the University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farhad Hossain in the chair.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2023 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Claudia Goldin “for having advanced our understanding of women’s labour market outcomes.”

This year’s economic sciences laureate, Claudia Goldin, provided the first comprehensive account of women’s earnings and labour market participation through the centuries. Her research reveals the causes of change, as well as the main sources of the remaining gender gap.

Women are vastly underrepresented in the global labour market and, when they work, they earn less than men. Claudia Goldin has trawled the archives and collected over 200 years of data from the US, allowing her to demonstrate how and why gender differences in earnings and employment rates have changed over time.

Historically, much of the gender gap in earnings could be explained by differences in education and occupational choices. However, Goldin has shown that the bulk of this earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation, and that it largely arises with the birth of the first child.

“Understanding women’s role in the labour market is important for society. Thanks to Claudia Goldin’s groundbreaking research we now know much more about the underlying factors and which barriers may need to be addressed in the future,” says Jakob Svensson, chair of the committee for the prize in economic sciences.
