🙋‍♂️Do teachers need a teaching degree before starting to teach❓

Well, it will certainly help! But is that mandatory? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Do you need a business degree to start a business? NO! ❌

Just like any other degree, a teaching degree is a huge commitment. Many people get into degrees having the wrong expectations, and then they realise that they don’t enjoy it, but they still stick with it because of the sunk cost fallacy. This is harmful for both the teacher and their students. 🚢

You need a way to test the waters. Start teaching at an early age. See if you enjoy it. Then if you feel that the skills you gained over the years of teaching will be augmented by a teaching degree - by all means get one! 🎓

If we straight-jacket all prospective teachers into getting an education degree, we’ll lose out on a lot of potential talents, who will not consider teaching as a career path due to the high barrier to entry. 🧑‍🏫

I’m not against getting a teaching degree, but it’s not a must. Most great teachers of the past, didn’t have any! Having it doesn’t automatically make you superior to someone who doesn’t have it❗️
