The 'passé composé' is formed with two distinct parts: the auxiliary and the past participles. Because of this, people often confuse it with the present perfect, although it's important to know it's not exactly the same tense. Most of the time, the auxiliary used is 'avoir', but in the case of 'aller' you have to use the auxiliary 'être' instead.
