পূজিবাদী অর্থনীতির বাস্তবতাঃ
গত কয়েক দশকে বিশ্বজুড়ে ধনীদের সম্পদ বেড়েছে আশঙ্কাজনক হারে। বিশ্বের শীর্ষ আটজন ধনকুবেরের সম্পদের পরিমাণ বিশ্বের অর্ধেক জনগোষ্ঠীর সম্পদের সমান। এ আটজন ধনকুবেরের মোট সম্পদের পরিমাণ প্রায় ৪৩ হাজার কোটি মার্কিন ডলার, যা সম্পদের মাপকাঠিতে নিচে থাকা অর্ধেক মানুষের সঞ্চিত সম্পদের সমান। বাংলাদেশের অবস্থা এতটা চরম না হলেও ধনী-গরিবের বৈষম্য বেড়েছে অনেক গুণ।
রাষ্ট্রের দেয়া সব ধরনের সুযোগ-সুবিধা ভোগ করে ধনীরা আরো বেশি ধনী হচ্ছে। তাতে কোনো সংশয় ছিল না, যদি না ধনীদের সম্পদ চুইয়ে গরিবের মধ্যে আশানুরূপ বিলি-বণ্টন হতো। বাস্তবে গরিবরা আরো গরিব না হলেও বাড়ছে না তাদের প্রকৃত আয়। অর্থনৈতিকভাবে পিছিয়ে পড়া জনগোষ্ঠীকে টেনে দারিদ্র্যসীমার ওপরে তোলার যে আস্থা ধনিক শ্রেণীর ওপর ছিল, বাস্তবে সেটা প্রতিফলিত হয়নি।

Banks under more scrutiny in new US advisory on Xinjiang

The US government has signalled extra scrutiny banks over supply chains that include forced labour in the Chinese province of Xinjiang.

An updated business advisory published by several US government departments on July 13 dedicates much greater attention to the role of banks and other financial institutions compared to the first such advisory, published a year ago.

The role of banks

The new advisory, which was issued by the departments of Treasury, State, Commerce, Homeland Security, Labour and the US Trade Representative, says “financial institutions play a critical role in identifying transactions associated with human trafficking at the transactional or teller level”.

The advisory includes a “non-exhaustive” list of industries in which Xinjiang forced labour has been identified. In addition to garments and solar, it includes agriculture, mobile phones, silicon, sugar, processed food, electronics, toys and noodles.

অর্থনৈতিক সহযোগিতা ও উন্নয়ন সংস্থার (ওইসিডি) সমীক্ষায় দেখা গেছে, বিশ্বের প্রধান অর্থনীতিগুলোর মধ্যে অস্ট্রেলীয়, কানাডিয়ান, ইতালীয় ও মার্কিন কর্মীরা জাপানিদের চেয়ে দীর্ঘ সময় কাজ করেন। তবুও জাপানের চেয়ে দেশগুলোর উৎপাদনশীলতায় খুব কম উন্নতি দেখা যায়। কারণ অন্যান্য উন্নত দেশের তুলনায় জাপানি কর্মীরা কম ছুটি নেন এবং তাদের মধ্যে দেশ ও চাকরি পরিবর্তনের প্রবণতা কম থাকে।
