Measles remains one of the most contagious human viral diseases, with a basic reproduction number (Rโ‚€) ranging from 12 to 18. Although the disease is entirely preventable through vaccination, recent outbreaks in Bangladesh have underscored the persistent challenges posed by declining immunization coverage and disruptions to routine vaccination services. Beyond its characteristic clinical manifestations, measles can result in severe complications, including pneumonia, acute encephalitis, long-term neurological sequelae, and death, particularly among infants, malnourished children, and immunocompromised individuals.

On World Lupus Day, we come together to raise awareness for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, a complex autoimmune condition where the bodyโ€™s immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy tissues and organs. Because the exact cause of lupus is still unknown, there is no guaranteed way to prevent the disease itself. However, early detection remains the most critical factor in preventing long-term organ damage. By recognizing early warning signs like the signature butterfly rash, persistent joint pain, and extreme fatigue, individuals can seek medical help sooner to manage the condition effectively.
Managing life with lupus often involves a strong focus on controlling environmental triggers to prevent painful flares. Since ultraviolet light is a common trigger, protecting the skin from sun exposure is a vital preventive step for those affected. Additionally, maintaining a consistent medical routine and monitoring heart and kidney health can significantly improve quality of life. Today, we share this information not just to educate, but to ensure that everyone living with this invisible illness receives the support and early intervention they deserve.

Just like the tiny microorganisms that quietly keep life balanced, mothers work every day with endless care, love, and strength, often without asking for anything in return. Their warmth helps families grow, heal, and stay strong through every stage of life.

From all of us at the BRACU Microbiology Student Council, thank you to every mother for being the heart of every home and the strongest support system in our lives.

On this International Thalassemia Day, the BRAC University Microbiology Student Council proudly presents a special interview session featuring Professor Dr. Mahboob Hossain, shedding light on Thalassemia from a microbiological and public health perspective.

Through this insightful discussion, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of prevention, early diagnosis, and public understanding of this genetic blood disorder, while standing in solidarity with individuals and families affected by it.

Let us work together to spread awareness, encourage screening, and build a healthier futureโœจ
