Many germs, including bacteria and viruses like COVID-19, are surrounded by a lipid (fat) membrane. Viruses have a protein coat and an outer lipid layer, while bacteria have lipid-containing cell membranes.
🧪Soap Molecules Are Special: Soap molecules have a dual nature:
1. One end is hydrophilic (water-loving)
2.The other end is hydrophobic (water-fearing, fat-loving)
🧪Breaking the Germs’ Membrane:
1.The hydrophobic end of soap binds to the lipids in the germ’s membrane.
2.This breaks apart the lipid layer, effectively destroying the germ.
🧪Trapping and Washing Away:
1. Soap molecules form tiny structures called micelles around the broken pieces of germs.
2. These micelles trap germs in water, allowing them to be washed away from your hands.
