As part of Alokito Future Teachers Cohort 6, our teachers stepped into the classroom at Alokito Hridoy School for their teaching demonstration. It was a chance to apply what they’ve learned, experience the classroom firsthand, and receive feedback on their teaching.

Week 3 was all about putting teaching strategies into practice.

Our teachers explored Differentiation, Students’ Needs, Scaffolding, and Effective Grouping, while also learning about building stronger teacher-student and teacher-parent relationships.

And then came their first teaching demonstration, where they put their learning into action.

Some acts of kindness quietly make a lasting difference.

For 42 years, Kamalesh Majhi has been carrying students across the river for free, continuing a tradition started by his father and grandfather.

A beautiful reminder that supporting education doesn’t always require much. Sometimes, it simply takes a commitment to help someone move forward. ❤️

Meet 52-year-old Kamalesh Majhi, a boatman from Mymensingh who has spent the past 42 years carrying students across the river for free. Every day, hundreds of students travel by his boat from Sutarchapar Ghat to Niguari Bazar Ghat to attend nearby schools and colleges, while other passengers pay a five-taka fare. The tradition was passed down from his father and grandfather, who also never charged schoolchildren.

Despite earning only around Tk 300–400 a day before expenses and struggling to support his six-member family, Kamalesh has never charged a student. His selfless tradition has even inspired other boatmen at the ghat to offer free rides to students. Over the decades, he has carried thousands of children, many of whom have grown up to become teachers, professionals and businesspeople. “Everyone respects me. Everyone loves me. I have everything. What more do I need?” he said.

Week 3 of the Alokito Future Teachers Program focused on understanding and responding to the different needs of learners.

From Differentiation and Identifying Students’ Needs to Scaffolding and Effective Grouping, our teachers explored practical ways to make learning more responsive and inclusive.

The week also brought an important milestone: their first teaching demonstration at the Alokito Teachers office, with feedback and reflection along the way
