Today, Prof. Dr. M Jashim Uddin, Director, CPS, met with Mr. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, Hon’ble Minister of Water Resources, Government of Bangladesh, who was the Chief Guest at NSU’s Freshers’ Orientation, Fall 2026. Prof. Jashim briefly shared CPS’s activities and discussed potential funding opportunities. The Hon’ble Minister expressed his interest in participating in a significant future CPS event.

🌐 CPS Lecture Series | UN Security Council: Challenges and the Way Forward 🇺🇳

The Center for Peace Studies (CPS), North South University, organized a thought-provoking lecture on “The UN Security Council: Challenges and the Way Forward,” featuring Dr. Virgil Hawkins, Professor at the Osaka School of International and Public Policy (OSIPP), Osaka University, as the keynote speaker.

Moderated by Professor Dr. M Jashim Uddin, Director, CPS, the session examined the institutional mechanisms of the UN Security Council, the use of veto power by the Permanent Five, and the Council’s role in addressing global security crises. Dr. Hawkins also highlighted the importance of prioritizing the voices of smaller states in efforts toward UN reform.

The session brought together faculty members, researchers, and students for an engaging discussion on the challenges facing the UN Security Council and the prospects for strengthening its role in addressing contemporary international security concerns.

The Center for Peace Studies (CPS), North South University, successfully organized a high-level national security dialogue titled “Securing Bangladesh’s Future: Rethinking National Security in a New and Changing Era” on 3 August 2026 at Syndicate Hall, North South University.
