শবে বরাত বা মধ্য-শা'বান (আরবি: نصف شعبان‎, প্রতিবর্ণী. নিসফে শাবান‎) বা লাইলাতুল বরাত হচ্ছে হিজরী শা'বান মাসের ১৪ ও ১৫ তারিখের মধ্যবর্তী রাতে পালিত মুসলিমদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ রাত।

International Mother Language Day is a worldwide observance held annually on February 21 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The day was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1999 to honor the memory of the Bengali Language Movement of 1952 in Bangladesh.

On February 21, 1952, students and activists in Bangladesh protested against the Pakistani government's decision to impose Urdu as the sole official language of the country. The protesters were demanding that Bengali be recognized as one of the official languages of Pakistan. The peaceful demonstration turned violent when the police opened fire on the protesters, killing several of them.

The language movement in Bangladesh ultimately led to the recognition of Bengali as an official language of Pakistan in 1956, and later, the establishment of Bangladesh as an independent country in 1971.

To commemorate the sacrifices made by the Bengali Language Movement activists and promote linguistic diversity, UNESCO declared February 21 as International Mother Language Day. The day is observed worldwide, with events and activities organized by governments, educational institutions, and cultural organizations to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity and promote multilingualism.
