Respiratory System

Main organs: nose, trachea, bronchi, lungs, and alveoli.

Process:
Air enters through the nose or mouth, passes down the trachea, and into the bronchi, which branch into the lungs.

Inside the lungs, the bronchi divide into smaller tubes called bronchioles, ending in tiny air sacs called alveoli.

At the alveoli, oxygen (O₂) from inhaled air diffuses into the blood, while carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the blood diffuses out into the alveoli to be exhaled.

Importance: This gas exchange supplies oxygen for respiration (energy release in cells) and removes waste carbon dioxide.
