IQAC-IUB organized a workshop on Research Grant Proposal

A day-long workshop on ‘Research Grant Proposal’ was held on December 09, 2021, organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, IQAC of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). This workshop was inspired by the IUB’s Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD. Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, PhD, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IUB inaugurated the workshop and put forth his welcoming remarks. Professor Shah M Faruque, Dean, School of Environment & Life Sciences, IUB; Professor Dilip Kumar Datta, PhD, Environmental Science Discipline, Khulna University; Professor Ujjal Kumar Nath, PhD, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU); and Professor Kazi Didarul Islam, PhD, Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Discipline, Khulna University were the resource persons in the workshop.
Earlier, Dr Md. Hafizur Rahman, Director of IQAC-IUB welcomed the audience. The Additional Director of IQAC-IUB Mr Obydullah Al Marjuk facilitated the event. A total of 54 faculty members from 5 schools joined the workshop. There were four sessions in the workshop delivered by four honorable resource persons.
This workshop was designed for both the early-career faculty members looking for a thorough introduction to the subject, as well as for the faculty members in their advanced careers looking to enrich and strengthen their grant acquisition skills. This workshop also made sure one understands how funding authorities and reviewers expect the grant proposals to be written, in order to take them through the selection process. Novel and transpiring issues in the grant application process have been addressed.

An orientation program for the newly joined faculty members held at IUB on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the Smart Classroom. The event was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). The theme of this orientation program was to know IUB better while the specific objective was to create the opportunity for the faculty members to familiarize with the service rules and IUB accounts Moreover, there were more modules on teaching philosophy, assessment, and student engagement.
A total of 25 newly joined faculty members from all departments and schools of IUB actively participated in the program. Professor Dr. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting), IUB inaugurated the workshop as the Chair and put forth his remarks. Mr. Mizanur Rahman, Director, HR and Mr. Kazi Md. Husamuddin, Director, Finance & Accounts presented their session at the starting of the program. After them, Professor Dr. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of IUB welcomed the participants and also presented a session about “The Teaching Philosophy” while Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk, Additional Director of IQAC facilitated the program. Apart from them, Professor Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, Dean, School of Engineering, Technology and Sciences (SETS) conducted a session as a resource person on the theme ‘are your online students engaged?’
The event was organized by the IQAC Team under the supervision of Mr. Salman Shakil Farhan, Administrative Officer and Ms. Sharmila Sarkar, Communication Officer.

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a daylong orientation workshop entitled “Online Learning Experience, Opportunities and Challenges” in collaboration with the Central Information Technology Services (CITS) for the faculty members of IUB (both full-time and adjunct) on Thursday, October 29, 2020. In line with the first online orientation workshop held in June this year, this event was also conducted online through Google Meet platform dividing the faculty members into four slots considering the large number. Professor Milan Pagon, Vice-Chancellor (Acting), IUB and Professor Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Director, IQAC-IUB inaugurated the workshop while Mr Obydullah Al Marjuk, Additional Director, IQAC-IUB moderated the workshop.
There were three technical parts in each of the four events. In the first part, IQAC Director Professor Sarwar Uddin Ahmed shared online learning experience highlighting the survey findings conducted on connectivity, delivery and assessment among the faculty members and students of IUB. He further elaborated the lessons learned and discussed the way forward. Brig Gen (Retd) Md. Anwarul Islam, Registrar, IUB delineated the new policy updates in the second part. The last part was conducted by Mr Syed Mahfuz Ahmed, Deputy Director & Head, CITS, IUB on the technical and connectivity aspects based on Google Classroom updates, troubleshooting and IT helpline. All of them were present in the QA session at the end along with Ms Mona Rahman, Deputy Registrar, IUB. More than 300 faculty members participated in the workshop.

Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) Workshop Held with the IQAC Directors

A three-hour-long workshop on accreditation standards and criteria held on October 13, 2020 with the Directors of Institutional Quality Assurance Cells (IQACs) of 29 private and public universities in Bangladesh. Professor Dr. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) was among the esteemed participants in the workshop. Professor Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Chairman, BAC was the chair of the event while the honorable members of BAC Mr Istiaque Ahmad, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Shahi Alam, Professor Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Professor DR. S. M. Kabir were present as the resource persons. The workshop was anchored by the Secretary of the Council, Professor Dr AQM Shafiul Azam. The workshop was organized by Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) using virtual platform accommodating the new normal.

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of IUB organized an international webinar on “Higher Education Responses, Challenges, and Solutions during Covid-19” on October 5, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. onwards. Renowned Professor Dr Christophe Schinckus, Head, School of Accounting and Finance, Taylor’s University (TU) spoke at the event as the distinguished guest while four other accomplished academicians and policymakers also joined as the special guests in the panel. They are Professor Nazmun Nahar, Director, IQAC, North South University (NSU); Dr Sultan Mahmud Bhuiyan, Director, Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance (SPQA) Division, UGC,B; Associate Professor Dr Kalthom Husain, Senior Fellow, Education & Educational Technology, Albukhary International University (AIU); and Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Ashraful Ferdous Chowdhury, Faculty of Business Administration, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). Professor Dr Milan Pagon, Vice-Chancellor (Acting), IUB chaired the webinar and Professor Dr Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Director, IQAC-IUB moderated the discussion. Mr Obydullah Al Marjuk, Additional Director, IQAC-IUB played the role of master of the ceremony.

Professor Chris discussed the overall impact of Covid-19 on higher education in the global and regional context. While he highlighted many opportunities burgeoning during the pandemic, he considered designing assessments online and developing the trust of the stakeholders are the biggest challenges. He introduced some strategies that were initiated by TU to address the situation. Professor Nazmun presented both faculty and students’ perspectives on the current situation showcasing NSU’s damage-control initiatives. Dr Kalthom suggested some collective efforts to minimize the difficulties, such as to make a target group of students who might be the worst sufferers due to the pandemic and approach their situation in a customized manner. Dr Chowdhury focused on the challenges in the context of public HEIs in Bangladesh and introduced different initiatives taken at SUST. Dr Sultan provided a compendium of the challenges and responses by the HEIs in Bangladesh. He emphasized the government initiatives through the UGC in order to reduce the digital divide and inequalities. He stressed on the government’s motto to keep all the students on track and motivated during the pandemic. The Chair of the session Professor Milan Pagon, Vice-Chancellor (Acting), IUB expressed his remarks on the fact that IUB is trying best in line with the world-class universities and addressing the pandemic with equal fervour. He considered the pandemic as the real change-maker, which must change the landscape of HEIs around the world. He strongly hoped that IUB will be able to cope with the changes as part of its commitments for incessant developments and thanked all IUBians for holding their spirit and motivation, which he considered as the capital for the winding journey ahead. There were a QA session and open discussion at the end of the forum.

Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) Workshop Held with the Vice-Chancellors

A three-hour-long workshop on standards and criteria for accreditation held on September 13, 2020 with the honorable Vice Chancellors of 35 private and public universities in Bangladesh. The workshop was organized by Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) by using virtual platform accommodating the new normal. Professor Milan Pagon, honorable Vice Chancellor (Acting), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) was among the esteemed participants in the workshop. Professor Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Chairman, BAC was the chair of the event while the honorable members of BAC Mr Istiaque Ahmad, Professor Md. Golam Shahi Alam, Professor Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Professor S. M. Kabir were present as the resource persons. Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized the first-ever Online Orientation Workshop for its faculty members from June 28-29, 2020. More than 500 fulltime and adjunct faculty members took part in the Workshop where the theme was, ‘Learning and Teaching Online’. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting), IUB.
This two-day Workshop was initiated by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in collaboration with the Center for Pedagogy and Central Information Technology Services (CITS) at IUB. The initiative was very unique in its kind; by using the state-of-the-art facilities and technical equipment, which were made available to IUB classrooms, this Workshop successfully accommodated the new normal situation sprouted due to Covid-19 pandemic. The Workshop covered numerous objectives including technical and connectivity aspects, pedagogy of online teaching, context and reality of online teaching, delivery and code of conduct, and online assessment. The resource persons were all IUB personnel, Prof. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed and Obydullah Al Marjuk from IQAC, Prof. Imtiaz A Hussain from Center for Pedagogy and Syed Mahfuz Ahmed and his team from CITS.
Earlier Prof. Milan Pagon discussed the challenges and opportunities of higher education in the new normal settings by inspiring and motivating the faculty members and Prof. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed welcomed the participants.

Among 42 universities, University Grants Commission (UGC) selected IQAC-IUB as one of the two best model institutions, to present quality educational standards and practices at a workshop held on January 28, 2020 at the UGC auditorium. This brings a great honour and acknowledgment for IUB. The title of the workshop is “the status of the IQACs at private universities: ways to step forward”. The chief guest of the event was Prof Kazi Shahidullah, Chairman, UGC and the chair was Prof Muhammed Alamgir, Member, UGC. The Vice Chancellors and Directors of IQACs from a total of 42 private universities took part in the workshop while Mr. Khandker Md. Iftekhar Haider, Treasurer, IUB, Prof. Dr. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Director, IQAC and Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk, Additional Director, IQAC attended the event on behalf of IUB. Prof. Sarwar presented past and contemporary activities of IQAC, challenges and way forward with regard to educational quality enhancement in order to elicit the key learning as well as the major challenges for all of the private universities. The program was facilitated by Dr. Sultan Mahmud Bhuiyan, Director, Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance Department, University Grants Commission (UGC).

A two-day-long orientation program for the faculty members held at IUB on Wednesday & Thursday, January 15 & 16, 2020 at the Multipurpose Hall and room number 7010. The event was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). The theme of this orientation program was to know IUB better while the specific objective was to create the opportunity for the faculty members to familiarize with the service rules, IUB accounts, Course Registration & Grade Submission, Library Support, Research Policy and IT support. Moreover, there were more modules on Teaching Philosophy, Understanding the Learners and Learnings, Familiarizing IUB Campus, Assessment and Course Outline.
A total of 160 faculty members from all departments and schools of IUB actively participated in the program. Professor Dr. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting), IUB inaugurated the workshop as the Chair and put forth his remarks. Earlier Professor Dr. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of IUB welcomed the participants while Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk, Additional Director of IQAC facilitated the program. The event was organized by the IQAC Team under the supervision of Mr. Salman Shakil Farhan, Administrative Officer and Ms. Sharmila Sarkar, Communication Officer.
The event was divided in a number of sessions spread over two days. The resource persons for day one were all IUB personnel who represent various administrative entities of IUB starting with Mr. Mizanur Rahman, Director, HR and Mr. Kazi Md. Husamuddin, Director, Finance Accounts and later followed by Brig Gen (Retd) Md. Anwarul Islam, Registrar, Mr. Tapos Sarkar, Controller of Examination, Mr. Muhammad Hossam Haider Chowdhury, Librarian, Ms. Lima Choudhury, Deputy Director & Head, Admission and Financial Aid Office, Mr. Syed Mahfuz Ahmed, Deputy Director & Head, CITS and Mr. Abdulla Hil Shafi, Senior Officer, Sponsored Research. For the second day there were five resource persons for five modules from the respected faculty members of IUB except one who was external. They are Professor Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Director of IQAC and Director of BBA Program, Professor Dr. Imtiaz A Hussain, Dean (Acting), SLASS and Director, Center for Pedagogy, Dr. Ahmed Tazmeen, Former Quality Assurance Consultant, QAU, UGC and Head, Department of Economics, North South University (NSU), Mr. Saiful Kabir, Senior Officer, DOSA, Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk, Additional Director of IQAC and Senior Lecturer of Sociology, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS).

A day-long workshop on ‘Whole Person Education’ in the series of faculty development workshops organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Multipurpose Hall of IUB. There were eight specific objectives in the workshop under the key objective to facilitate the participants in order to impart Whole Person Eduction. Moreover, there were two modules: effective teaching; team building and team work.
A total of 60 faculty members divided in two sessions (morning and afternoon) from all departments and schools of IUB actively participated in the workshop. The resource person was Rev. Dr. V.M. Spurgeon, Senior Program Consultant (South Asia), United Board for Christian Higher Education. Professor Dr. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting), IUB inaugurated the workshop as the Chair and put forth his remarks.
Earlier Professor Dr. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of IUB welcomed the participants and introduced the resource person to the participant while Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk, Additional Director of IQAC facilitated the workshop.
