How to Uplift your Math Teaching

To better serve our students, we the Math educators need to work on uplifting our standard. To achieve this we can act upon the following, in-sha-Allah:

1) Read high quality Math books (The Art and Craft of Problem Solving by Paul Zeitz, Problem Solving Strategies by Arthur Engel, AoPS PreCalculus by Richard Rusczyk, etc.)

2) Training on the usage of Math software and technology (Desmos, GeoGebra, WolframAlpha, MapleLearn etc.) in the classroom.

3) Using online resources (Mathsisfun, Brilliant.org etc.)

4) Training on Mathematical reasoning, Critical thinking, and Diverse Problem-solving strategies.

5) Doing online Math courses at edX, MIT OCW etc.

6) Read Math Magazines (e.g. Quanta magazine etc.)

7) The teachers who use facebook, youtube etc. can join Math groups in fb, subscribe YT Math channels, and join online Math forums.

8. Practice different levels of olympiad problems.

9) Doing programming to develop algorithmic thinking skills which yields benefits in Math also.

10) And lastly, Immersion in Maths, that is, thinking and dreaming Mathematics!

Surah-Ayat Distribution in Quran

'A'isha, the mother of the believers, said that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was called to lead the funeral prayer of a child of the Ansar. I said:

Allah's Messenger, there is happiness for this child who is a bird from the birds of Paradise for it committed no sin nor has he reached the age when one can commit sin. He said: 'A'isha, per adventure, it may be otherwise, because God created for Paradise those who are fit for it while they were yet in their father's loins and created for Hell those who are to go to Hell. He created them for Hell while they were yet in their father's loins.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى، عَنْ عَمَّتِهِ، عَائِشَةَ بِنْتِ طَلْحَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، قَالَتْ دُعِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلَى جَنَازَةِ صَبِيٍّ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ طُوبَى لِهَذَا عُصْفُورٌ مِنْ عَصَافِيرِ الْجَنَّةِ لَمْ يَعْمَلِ السُّوءَ وَلَمْ يُدْرِكْهُ قَالَ ‏ "‏ أَوَغَيْرَ ذَلِكَ يَا عَائِشَةُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَلَقَ لِلْجَنَّةِ أَهْلاً خَلَقَهُمْ لَهَا وَهُمْ فِي أَصْلاَبِ آبَائِهِمْ وَخَلَقَ لِلنَّارِ أَهْلاً خَلَقَهُمْ لَهَا وَهُمْ فِي أَصْلاَبِ آبَائِهِمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَفْشُوا السَّلاَمَ وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ وَصِلُوا الأَرْحَامَ وَصَلُّوا بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّاسُ نِيَامٌ تَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِسَلاَمٍ

‘Abdullah bin Salam said:
“When the Prophet (ﷺ) came to Al-Madinah, the people rushed to meet him, and it was said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has come! The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has come! The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has come!’ Three times. I came with the people to see him, and when I saw his face clearly, I knew that his face was not the face of a liar. The first thing I heard him say was when he said: ‘O people! Spread (the greeting of) Salam, feed others, uphold the ties of kinship, and pray during the night when people are sleeping, and you will enter Paradise with Salam.”*

Keeping Appointments, Delays And Cancellation
In the first verse of Surat Al-Mai'da, Allah called upon the believers 'O' you the Believers, fulfill your promises.' In Surat Maryam Allah also praised Prophet Ismail may peace be upon him 'He was true to his promise. He was a Messenger and a Prophet.'

To keep an appointment is vital to our lives, since time is the most precious commodity, once wasted it could not be replaced. If you made an appointment, whether to a friend, colleague or for business you should do your utmost to keep this appointment. This is the right of the other person who gave you part of their time and may have declined other appointments. Not only have you disrupted their schedule but you have marred your image and personality. If your punctuality becomes lousy you will lose people's respect. You should keep all your appointments whether it was with an important person, a close friend or someone else. You will be responding to the call of Allah in Surat Al-Isra' 'and keep your promises. The promise is a responsibility.'

It is enough to know that our kind Prophet gave an appointment to one of his companions. The companion came three days later. The Prophet gently reprimanded him 'You have caused me some trouble. I have been waiting expecting you since three days.' The companion probably had an excuse for this delay. Then, he had no means to inform the Prophet about his inability to meet the appointment.

Today, fast and reliable communication means are available everywhere. As soon as you realize you will not be able to keep an appointment, you should inform the other parties to enable them to utilize their time. Do not be careless or irresponsible. Do not think that the appointment is so unimportant that it does not merit a notice or an apology. This is totally irrelevant. Regardless of its importance an appointment is a commitment. It must be kept or canceled properly in advance.

Never make a promise while you do not intend to keep it or fulfill it. This is forbidden as it falls within lying and hypocrisy. Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated that the Prophet said: 'Three traits single out hypocrites, even if he prayed and/or fast and claimed to be Muslim: If he talks, he lies. If he promises, he does not keep it. If he is entrusted, he betrays the trust.'

Imam Ghazali in Al-Ihya said that this Hadith fits those who promise while intending not to fulfill it, or those who, without excuse, decide later not to fulfill a promise. Those who promise but could not fulfill, their promise due to a proper excuse are not hypocrites. But we should be careful not to create excuses that are not valid. Allah knows our inner thoughts and intentions.

Other vs Another

"Other" is used for plural or non-count nouns and refers to a general set or group, while "another" is used for singular, countable nouns and refers to one more of the same kind or a different one.

"Other"

Plural nouns: "Do you have other books?"
Uncountable nouns: "Can you give me other information?"
Pronoun: "We have two tickets and I'll send others later."
General: "There are other factors to consider."

"Another"

Singular, countable nouns: "I want another sandwich."
One more: "Would you like another cup of coffee?"
Different from the first: "This one is bad, I want another one."

Examples:
"I need some more pens. Can I have another one?"
(Another is correct because "pen" is a singular, countable noun and you want one more of the same kind)
"Do you have any other suggestions?"
(Other is correct because "suggestions" is a plural noun and you are referring to a different set of ideas)

Astronomers have found tantalizing evidence of life on the exoplanet K2-18b, a planet 8.6 times the mass of Earth and located in the habitable zone of its star, around 124 light-years from Earth. The James Webb Space Telescope detected molecules, like dimethyl sulfide (DMS), which on Earth are primarily produced by marine phytoplankton. While more research is needed, these findings offer promising hints of potential life beyond our solar system. And of course we believe in living angels far beyond our galactic systems. gazillion: a very large number or quantity (used for emphasis).

It's a fanciful formation on the pattern of billion and million.

'Gazillion' is not a real number. Actually, it's not a number at all! 'Gazillion' is a word that is used to describe a large amount of something, such as 'There were a gazillion ants on the ice-cream cone I dropped.'

"O'clock" is a term used to indicate the hour when the minute hand on a clock is pointing to the number 12, signifying the start of a new hour. For example, when the minute hand is on 12 and the hour hand is on 3, it's "three o'clock". It's a way of precisely stating the hour of the day.
Key points:
Exact hour: "O'clock" is used only when the time is precisely on the hour (e.g., 3:00, 5:00).
No minutes: It's not used for times with minutes, like 3:15 or 3:30.
Contraction: The "o" in "o'clock" is a contraction of "of the clock," used historically to specify time according to the clock.

Capacity vs Volume

Capacity is the amount a container can hold, while volume is the amount of space an object takes up. In essence, capacity refers to the internal space within a container, whereas volume refers to the total space an object occupies, including its thickness.

Key Differences

What they measure:
Capacity measures the amount of liquid or substance a container can hold, while volume measures the amount of space an object occupies.

Units:
Capacity is often measured in units like liters, milliliters, or gallons, while volume is typically measured in cubic units (e.g., cubic centimeters, cubic meters).

Relationship:
Capacity is essentially the internal volume of a container. A container has both volume (the space it occupies) and capacity (the space inside it).

Examples:
A bucket has a capacity of 5 liters, but its volume is larger because it includes the thickness of the plastic.
A block of wood has volume but no capacity because it doesn't have an interior space to hold anything.
