English Grammar Lecture Sheet 2: Verbal Noun, Gerund and Participle যেভাবে চেনা যায়!

আগে লিখেছি, Gerund এর মূল বৈশিষ্ট্য সেখানে Noun & Verb উভয় Part of Speech এর ফোর্স থাকবে। সেকারণে Gerund হচ্ছে Double Part of Speech।
1. Smoking ci******es is not allowed here. এই বাক্যে Smoking যা Gerund এবং Allow verb এর subject/part of subject; Smoking এ একইসাথে noun & verb এর ফোর্স বিদ্যমান (অর্থাৎ Double Part of Speech)।
2. I like reading poetry. এই বাক্যে reading যা Gerund এবং LIke verb এর object/part of object; Reading এ একইসাথে noun & verb এর ফোর্স বিদ্যমান (অর্থাৎ Double Part of Speech)।
3. He is fond of hoarding money. এই বাক্যে hoarding যা Gerund, এখানে hoarding, preposition ‘Of’ দ্বারা governed হয়েছে এবং একটি object ‘money’ আছে। Hoarding এ একইসাথে noun & verb এর ফোর্স বিদ্যমান (অর্থাৎ Double Part of Speech)।
অন্যদিকে, Participle হলো Verb এর রুপান্তরিত ফর্ম (form) যা কিছুটা Verb এবং কিছুটা Adjective (গুনগত), এজন্য Participle হচ্ছে Double Part of Speech (Verb and Adjective)।
১) Participle 'noun বা pronoun' কে Govern (চালনা/নিয়ন্ত্রিত করা) করতে পারে। যেমন,
Hearing the noise, the boy woke up. এখানে, noun noise, ‘hearing' participle দ্বারা Govern (চালনা/নিয়ন্ত্রিত করা) হয়েছে।
২) Participle, Adverb দ্বারা modify হতে পারে। যেমন, Loudly knocking at the gate, he demanded admission. এখানে, Participle knocking মডিফাই হয়েছে adverb Loudly দ্বারা।
৩) Participle, Adjective হিসেবে 'noun বা pronoun' কে Qualify করে। যেমন,
A blooming flower is beautiful to look at. এখানে এখানে Blooming, Flower noun কে Qualify করছে।
৪) Degree of Comparison হিসেবে Participle ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। যেমন,
Education is the most pressing need of our time. এখানে, Pressing Participle এর পূর্বে (prefixing) most ব্যবহার করে Degree of Comparison বুঝাচ্ছে।
যারা ওপরের লেখাটি বুঝতে পেরেছে তারা কমেন্টে Yes বা Understood এবং যারা বুঝতে পারেনি তারা কমেন্টে No লিখলে আমি লেখাটি মূল্যায়ন করে ভবিষ্যতে লেখার ক্ষেত্রে টেকনিক প্রয়োগ করতে পারব। তবে ইংরেজির A, B, C, D যারা জানেনা, তারা কিছুই বুঝতে পারবে না।
