Definition:

Think of language as the tool we use to build our thoughts and connect with other people.

Key Functions of Language:
1. Communication: It allows us to share information (e.g., telling someone what we did today).
2. Expression: It allows us to show feelings and opinions (e.g., saying "I am happy").
3. Instruction: It allows us to teach or give directions (e.g., explaining how to cook something).
4. Recording Knowledge: It allows us to write down history, science, and stories for future generations.

Grammar is the rulebook for using language correctly. If language is the *tool* (the words), then grammar is the *instruction manual* that tells us how to put those words together so that everyone understands the exact meaning we intend.

Example:
* Language (The Words): "The cat chased the mouse."
* Grammar (The Rules): Tells us that the Subject (cat) must come before the Verb (chased), and we need to use the correct Tense (Past Tense).
