9 Years On: Accountability Needed for the Rohingya
On Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day, 25 August 2026, the Education Garden for Rohingya (EGR) stands together with Amnesty International, Fortify Rights, Human Rights Watch, Refugees International, and more than 60 other civil society and human rights organizations in endorsing the joint statement, “9 Years On: Accountability Needed for Myanmar Military Junta’s Atrocities Against the Rohingya.”
Nine years after the atrocities of 2017 forced more than 700,000 Rohingya to flee to Bangladesh, justice and accountability remain urgently needed. The statement calls for stronger international action to hold perpetrators accountable, protect Rohingya rights, support refugees, and ensure conditions for a voluntary, safe, dignified, and sustainable return to Myanmar with full citizenship and socio-economic rights.
As one of the signatories, EGR reaffirms its commitment to justice, accountability, recognition, and the rights of the Rohingya people.
Nine years on, the Rohingya have waited far too long for justice. The time for meaningful accountability is now.
