Bangladesh's fourth consecutive bilateral series win
Not reputation, not rankings, not even rain could stop Bangladesh from clinching a first bilateral series win over South Africa, and a fourth successive series triumph at home. Bangladesh dominated South Africa in every department, restricting them to a total of under 200 and then romping to the target themselves, with 13.5 overs to spare.

On the way, Shakib al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza both picked up their 200th ODI wicket, Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar posted the best partnership for Bangladesh against South Africa - 154 - and Soumya scored the fastest fifty for a Bangladesh batsman against South Africa, off 41 balls. South Africa could only watch and wonder how Bangladesh seemed to be playing on a complete different surface to the slow, strangling one that had snared them earlier.

South Africa's top order struggled against the shrewd approach from Bangladesh's bowlers, who collectively put in another disciplined performance. Only JP Duminy and David Miller had some measure of conditions, adding 63 runs for the fifth wicket. Duminy went on to a half-century but there were little resistance from anyone else, even the recognised batsmen.

Quinton de Kock's failure to find form extended to another innings as Mustafizur Rahman found his leg stump with a full delivery that angled in and evaded the batsman as he tried to play to mid-wicket.

Shakib was introduced in the sixth over and immediately caused problems for South Africa's most experienced pair. Neither Hashim Amla nor Faf du Plessis adjusted to the pitch of the ball, and when du Plessis attempted to counterattack, he was caught off a top edge.

Four overs later, Shakib should have had Amla as well. Amla played a similar to du Plessis', but Sabbir Rahman, who had to backpedal from mid-off to judge the catch, could not hold on. Shakib was not denied for too long, though. In his next over, Amla was caught behind to become Shakib's 200th ODI wicket.

Mahmudullah had Rilee Rossouw caught when he lost his balance trying to pull and South Africa were in trouble on 50 for 4 before Duminy and Miller dug in. Miller was more confident against spin and in his use of the sweep shot than he has been all series, and Duminy, realising the need to bat patiently, was happy to wait.

That was just as well, because the wait lasted two hours and 55 minutes as rain interrupted South Africa's innings after 23 overs with the score on 78 for 4. When play resumed, Miller continued in his role as aggressor and until he hit Mortaza in the air and Sabbir made up for his earlier drop with a diving catch at backward point to give the captain his 200th.

Farhaan Behardien showed signs of the fight he displayed in the second match, but holed out off Shakib as South Africa looked to accelerate. Sabbir, stationed on the long-on boundary, caught the ball overhead, but seeing that the momentum would take him over the rope, threw it back in and then re-collected it once he was within the boundary. That left Duminy with the tailenders, who were unable to cope with the cutter from Mustafizur and the yorker from Rubel Hossain.

South Africa lost four wickets for 19 runs to leave their bowlers with a tough task, especially as they did not have their premier pace pack to pull it off. They have previously successfully defended just three totals lower than this - 129, 140 and 149 - and not even Morne Morkel's inclusion could help them add 170 to that list.

Morkel bowled first change, behind Kyle Abbott and Kagiso Rabada, but none of them could not find the right length or line to trouble Bangladesh. They were either too short or too full, and almost always too straight.

Tamim delighted in riding the bounce to cut or lean into the on-drive, but Soumya held the early controls. He took three successive boundaries off Rabada, all on the leg side, to bring Bangladesh's fifty in the eighth over, before Amla turned to spin. Neither Imran Tahir nor Duminy caused any problems, instead presenting opportunity for the openers to charge down the track.

Soumya's fifty came off from a leg-side ball from Morkel, eased to short fine leg, which only opened him up for more expansive strokeplay: The cover drive off Tahir, the hoick over mid-wicket for the only six of the innings, the pull, and the steer through the vacant slip cordon. Tamim, while being a spectator to all these, brought up his own fifty, off 70 balls, with a single.

As the result became a foregone conclusion, Tamim did his best to get Soumya on strike in search of a century, but Soumya brought about his own downfall, chipping Tahir to short cover. Tamim, though, was on hand, along with Litton Das, to usher Bangladesh home and into the history books to conclude a limited-overs' season to remember for a cricketing nation on the rise.

i never thought i will comment on espn cricinfo on series that does not involve team India But this Bangladeshi team has forced me to put, it is indeed the golden period of Bangladesh's cricket, the way they are playing is simply awesome and if they keep the momentum we can expect the change of cricket world in bangladesh, we must appreciate the effort of all the cricketers and supporting staff. Every team is strong when they play in their own backyard be it India Aus New Zealand or even South Africa , all teams have proved it, so its better that we all should appreciate Bangladesh cricket as now they are easily dominating the home series like other nations. Lots of wishes to Bangaldesh team for next challenges, hopefully they are ready for the next level.

If the core players stay together for 3-4 more years, BD will be a force to be reckoned with home and away. There is a real balance in the team, especially now that the days of spin oriented attacks are gone. Alongside the relentless amount of attacking batsmen in the dugout, I feel BD can do something really special in ODI cricket. I think onus should now be placed in tests, and trying to climb that ladder ASAP

Its great to see that not only Soumya or Mustafiz but every other members of Team BD starred in all the recent series wins. But only one or two players get Man of the Match etc. Anyway, Bdesh should make the home-grounds greatly terrifying for visitors while take some ventures abroad. We should aim higher than No. 5 in the ranking table. If we can really occupy and hold no. 4 or better for a long long time we will be recognized as a super- power. At least, that should be our aim.

Well done to BD, they played the better cricket in the last two games and deserved to win. Good comeback from 1-0 down. And Iqbal finally learnt to play sensibly. Sarkar seems like a good prospect for the future, and bowling is quite strong. But tests are a different ball game and the Proteas definitely won't take BD lightly. I'm hoping BD play like this in tests, but Rahim does not seem like Mortaza and they nay go for a defensive XI, which would be disappointing.

As many other fans of different nations are demanding from BD to beat them (other fans) in their home. I am giving you (other fans) my words that BD will surely fulfil your wish with dominance. BD Cricket team will conquer every nations on their home grounds someday. I am sure you will see those days very soon.

Everybody from our neighboring country is trying to teach Bangladesh how to celebrate a victory and to earn respect. Doing so they themselves are showing their shallowness of mind. Tell your commentators and fans alike to learn to appreciate from their South Africa counterparts. You like it or not BD is here and India and Pakistan having played more cricket then us and India with almost ten times the population size have failed to get 11 decent players who can give a fight. We have won four consecutive series at home and showed a great performance in Australia, so let us rejoice and don't try to teach us when we are not caking comments against you guys. You are all just to mean minded to accept our performance. I use to love Indian cricket and hate their supporters and it has become stronger now a days.

Winning last two series was not a big deal but winning series against mighty SA was really tough job. Congrats BD.

বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে (কুবি) বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং কুমিল্লা ভিক্টোরিয়া কলেজকে পূর্ণাঙ্গ
বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় করার প্রস্তাব রাখেন

কুমিল্লা-৬ আসনের এমপি আ.ক.ম বাহাউদ্দীন বাহার। তাঁর এই প্রস্তাবনাকে নিন্দা জানিয়ে সামাজিক যোগাযোগের মাধ্যম ফেইসবুকে প্রতিবাদের ঝড় তুলেছেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক-
শিক্ষার্থীসহ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়
পরিবারের সদস্যরা। গত রবিবার সংসদের বাজেট অধিবেশনে এমপি বাহার এ প্রস্তাব রাখেন।
এমপি বাহারের এ প্রস্তাবনায় ক্ষুব্ধ হয়ে উঠেছে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীরা । কুবিতে তাঁর (এমপি
বাহারের) কোন প্রকার রাজনৈতিক প্রভাব না থাকায় এমন প্রস্তাব করেছেন বলে মন্তব্য করেন কুবির
সাধারণ শিক্ষার্থীসহ একাধিক ছাত্রনেতা।

এই প্রস্তাবনার প্রতিবাদ জানিয়ে কুবি শাখা ছাত্রলীগের যুগ্ম আহবায়ক আল আমিন অর্ণব তার ফেইসবুক
স্ট্যাটাসে লেখেন, ‘কুমিল্লা বাসীর দীর্ঘ দিনের লালিত স্বপ্নের ফসল এই কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। কিন্তু
দুঃখজনক হলেও সত্য একজন মানুষ খুশি হতে পারলেন না, তিনি হলেন এমপি বাহার। হ্যা তিনি আবার খুশি হতেন
যদি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টির অবস্থান মুন্সেফ বাড়ী না হলেও অন্তত যদি শহরে হত। কারণ কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে উনার
কোন রাজনৈতিক অবস্থান নেই এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টি শহর থেকে ৮ কিলোমিটার দূরে। আর এই জন্যই উনি
ভিক্টোরিয়া কলেজকে পূর্ণাঙ্গ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় আর কুমিল্লা
বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় করার খায়েশ মাথায়
চেপেছেন। কারণ ভিক্টোরিয়া কলেজ উনার নাগালে হওয়ায়
ভিক্টোরিয়া কলেজে নগ্ন হস্তক্ষেপ করতে সুবিধা হবে। তাই তিনি মহান সংসদে আজ এই প্রস্তাবটি করেছেন।
২০০৮ সালে এম.পি বাহার জাতীয় সংসদে একই প্রস্তাব করেছিলেন তখন আমরা কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় শাখা
ছাত্রলীগ ব্যাপক আন্দোলন ও বিক্ষোভ কর্মসূচি পালন করি। তখন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সকল সাধারণ ছাত্র-
ছাত্রী এবং শিক্ষক, কর্মকর্তা-
কর্মচারীরা আমাদের সাথে একাত্মতা পোষণ করেন। যখন আমরা সংখ্যায় কম ছিলাম তখনও আপনি
পারেননি আর এখন আমরা সংখ্যায় হাজার হাজার আসেন ডাইরেক ভাইংগে দেমু। আপনার কাছে অনুরোধ
আমাদের ইমোশনে আর আঘাত করবেন না। কারণ কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা তাদের শরীরের শেষ
রক্ত বিন্দু দিয়ে হলেও বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সম্মান অক্ষুন্ন রাখবে
এটা আমার বিশ্বাস।’

বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়’ নামক একটি ফেইসবুক পেইজ তাদের ওয়ালে লিখেছে,‘এমপি বাহারকে পাবনায় নেয়ার
প্রস্তুতি সম্পন্ন। যে কোন সময় গাড়ী পাবনার উদ্দেশ্যে রওনা হবে। বিঃদ্রঃ-(রবিবার) আজ মহান জাতীয়
সংসদে কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে
বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়
এবং কুমিল্লা ভিক্টোরিয়া
কলেজকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় করার প্রস্তাব
করে নিজকে পাগল প্রমাণ করে

এছাড়াও সাধারণ শিক্ষার্থীরাও তাদের ক্ষোভ জানাচ্ছেন তাদের ফেইসবুক স্ট্যাটাসে । কেউ কেউ আবার
এমপি বাহারকে পাগলা গারদে পাঠানোর পরামর্শ দিচ্ছেন
সামাজিক যোগাযোগের এই মাধ্যমে। এ বিষয়কে শিক্ষক সমিতির সভাপতি দুলাল চন্দ্র নন্দী বলেন, বাহার সাহেব
রাজনৈতিক ব্যক্তিত্ব হিসেবে শুধু তাঁর নির্বাচনী এলাকা নিয়ে
ভাবলে হবেনা। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে বৈশ্বিক হিসাবে দেখতে হবে। সাংসদ হিসেবে তিনি যদি তাঁর
নির্বাচনী এলাকায় একটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে
পারেন তা কুমিল্লাবাসীর জন্য অবশ্যই ভালো । কিন্তু একটি পূর্ণাঙ্গ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে বিজ্ঞান প্রযুক্তি
বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় করার প্রস্তাব কোন ভাবেই গ্রহণযোগ্য নয়। উনার মতো দায়িত্বশীল ব্যক্তির কাছে এটা
আমরা প্রত্যাশা করি নাই।

কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভিসি প্রফেসর ড. মোঃ আলী আশরাফ বলেন, একটি পূর্ণাঙ্গ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে
বিজ্ঞান প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় করা হলে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পরিসরকে সঙ্কুচিত করা হবে। তিনি নতুন করে
একটি বিজ্ঞান প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় করতে পারলে সেটা কুমিল্লাবাসীর জন্য ভালো। তবে কুমিল্লা
বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে বিজ্ঞান প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় করার প্রস্তাব আমরা সমর্থন করিনা।

উল্লেখ্য, ২০০৮ সালে মহান জাতীয়
সংসদে একই প্রস্তাব রেখেছিলেন
এমপি বাহার। পরে শিক্ষার্থীদের
আন্দোলনের ফলে তাঁর প্রস্তাবনা ব্যর্থ
হয়।
