Changes of State: A Simple Guide
Matter can exist in three main states: solid, liquid, and gas. But did you know that matter can change from one state to another? This process is called a "change of state."
When you heat a solid, like ice, it melts and becomes a liquid (water). If you heat the water further, it evaporates and turns into a gas (steam). These changes happen because heat energy makes the particles in matter move faster and spread apart.
But what happens when you cool the steam? It condenses back into water, and if you cool it even more, it freezes into ice again. So, changes of state can go both ways: heating causes melting and evaporation, while cooling leads to condensation and freezing.
