A New Step Toward Confident English Communication.
Hatiya Language Club warmly welcomes the proposed initiative to introduce English Speaking Tests at the primary level alongside written English examinations in Bangladesh’s upcoming curriculum.
This is more than an examination reform—it can be a meaningful step toward building a generation of confident communicators.
For years, many of our students have studied English from primary school to university, yet a significant number struggle to communicate naturally in English in real-life situations. The gap is not always a lack of knowledge; often, it is a lack of practice, exposure, confidence, and a supportive speaking environment.
Therefore, English learning should not remain limited to grammar, memorisation and written examinations.
From the very beginning, children should have regular opportunities to listen, speak, interact, ask questions and express their ideas in English.
However, successful implementation requires more than simply adding a Speaking Test. We must first ensure:
🔹 Proper English-speaking training for teachers
🔹 Regular classroom speaking practice
🔹 Activity-based and communication-focused lessons
🔹 A friendly, fear-free environment for young learners
🔹 Practical assessment rather than memorised answers
🔹 Continuous teacher development and monitoring
A child cannot be expected to speak confidently if the learning environment does not give that child enough opportunities to speak.
At Hatiya Language Club, we strongly believe that English is not merely a subject—it is a life skill and a tool for global communication. From Hatiya to the wider world, our vision is to create opportunities for learners to develop confidence, communication skills and a love for English.
We hope this initiative will not remain only a policy announcement. With proper planning, teacher preparation and effective implementation, English Speaking Tests from the primary level can become an important milestone in transforming English education in Bangladesh.
Let our children not just learn English—
Let them use English.
Let them speak English.
