Statement of the Rohingya Community
On behalf of the broader Rohingya people
A strong response to the statement issued by the Arakan American Community (AAC)
We, representing the aspirations and voices of millions of Rohingya people both in our homeland and in the diaspora, firmly reject and condemn the recent statement issued by the Arakan American Community (AAC), in which the Rohingya have been falsely accused of the killings that took place against the Rakhine population in 1942.
These allegations are entirely baseless, a distortion of history, and a deliberate attempt to spread propaganda aimed at concealing the truth. Authentic historical records, testimonies of survivors, local histories, and independent research clearly demonstrate that the organized violence, killings, village burnings, looting, r**e, and forced displacement in Arakan in 1942 had among its primary victims the minority Rohingya Muslim community.
The suffering of the Rohingya people did not begin in 1942 and has not ended today. For centuries—particularly in 1784, 1942, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2024, and 2026—the Rohingya have repeatedly been subjected to genocide, ethnic cleansing, extrajudicial killings, persecution, systematic r**e, and the destruction of our villages and homes. Millions have been forcibly displaced from their ancestral land and deprived of their citizenship, fundamental rights, and identity.
It is an internationally recognized reality that these crimes have been committed with the direct involvement, support, and protection of the Myanmar military junta. At the same time, extremist Rakhine groups and the so-called Arakan Army (AA) have repeatedly collaborated with junta forces in launching attacks against the Rohingya, inciting hatred, and committing crimes against humanity. Their objective has consistently been one: to erase the Rohingya from their own land.
Today, while the international community and judicial institutions have already recognized the genocide and crimes against humanity committed against the Rohingya, certain extremist Rakhine elements are resorting to misinformation and propaganda in an attempt to divert attention and evade accountability.
We call upon the United Nations, the international community, human rights organizations, and international judicial mechanisms to:
Reject all false narratives and attempts to distort history regarding the Rohingya.
Ensure full justice and accountability for the Rohingya people.
Take effective legal and political action against the Myanmar military junta, extremist Rakhine groups, and the Arakan Army for their involvement in genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity.
The Rohingya are a peaceful and indigenous people of Arakan. We seek no revenge; we seek justice. We do not want war; we want our fundamental rights. We do not seek division; we seek dignity, equality, and a safe return to our ancestral homeland.
May truth prevail. May justice be established. May humanity be upheld.
On behalf of the broader Rohingya people,
Rohingya Community
