একটি ছোট্ট সমীক্ষা
=============================
অক্টোবর ২০২৪ এডিশনের 'English for Today' নামের পাঠ্য বইটি বেশ কিছু সংযোজন, বিয়োজন সহ এই সপ্তাহেই বাজারে আসলো। অতি উৎসাহ ও আগ্রহে মাত্র দুই দিন আগেই লাইব্রেরি থেকে কিনে নিয়ে বইটির শুরু থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত গভীর মনোযোগে বার দু'এক চোখ বুলিয়ে নেবার সুযোগ হয়। কিন্তু আশায় গুড়ে বালি।
অবিশ্বাস্য হলেও সত্য যে, নতুন করে বইটি ছাপানোর যে উপলক্ষ, তার ছিটে-ফোটাও বইটিতে দেখা মিলেনি। ২৪ এর জুলাই-আগস্টে ঘটে যাওয়া বৈষম্য বিরোধী ছাত্র-জনতার ইস্পাত কঠিন গণঅভ্যুত্থানের রক্তাক্ত ইতিহাসের কোন কিছুই এতে অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয় নাই।
অথচ, পাঠ্য বইয়ের শেষে প্রায় ৪৮ পৃষ্ঠার 'Reading for Pleasure' নামের একটি সম্পূরক (Supplementary Part- তিনটি ছোট গল্প, তিনটি কবিতা ও একটি নাটক সম্বলিত) অংশ সংযুক্ত হলেও ২৪ এর জুলাই-আগস্ট বিপ্লবের প্রেক্ষাপটে একটি শব্দও এতে ব্যয় করা হয়নি।
পক্ষান্তরে, পাঠ্য বইয়ের শুরুতেই অর্থাৎ প্রথম অধ্যায়ের প্রথম পাঠেই বিশ্বকবি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের অখ্যাত ও Gen-Z খ্যাত এই জেনারেশনের জন্য সম্পূর্ণ বেমানান ও অনুপযুক্ত 'তোতা কাহিনী' (Parrot's Tale) নামের একটি ছোট গল্প সংযোজিত হলেও বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় কবি কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের গল্প, কবিতা, ছড়া বা নাটকের কোন কিছুই এতে অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয় নাই।
আমরা বিশ্বাস করি, বিগত ফ্যাসিস্ট সরকারের রক্ত হিম করা অসংখ্য গুম, খুন, বর্বর নির্যাতন ও নিপীড়ন, পর্বতসম দুর্নীতি ও লুটপাটের যে চিত্র, তা পাঠ্য বইয়ে অন্তর্ভুক্ত হওয়া একান্ত প্রয়োজন। দেশকে এক অনন্য উচ্চতায় নিয়ে যেতে হলে নতুন প্রজন্মের এই গল্প জানা আবশ্যক।
