পবিত্র শবে মেরাজ রাতে মহান আল্লাহ তায়ালার হুকুমে আল্লাহর প্রিয় নবী ও রসুল হজরত মুহাম্মদ (সা.) আরশে আজিম পর্যন্ত ঊর্ধ্বলোক গমনের সৌভাগ্য লাভ করেছিলেন। এ সময় তিনি মহান আল্লাহ রব্বুল আলামিনের দিদার লাভ করেন এবং আল্লাহর কাছ থেকে পাঁচ ওয়াক্ত নামাজের বিধান নিয়ে একই রাতে আবার দুনিয়াতে ফিরে আসেন। এ কারণেই রাতটি মুসলমানদের কাছে অত্যন্ত পবিত্র।

মুসলমানরা এ মহিমান্বিত রাতটি আল্লাহর সন্তুষ্টি অর্জনের জন্য পবিত্র কোরআন তিলাওয়াত, নফল নামাজ আদায়, জিকির-আসকার, দোয়া-দরুদ ও ইবাদত-বন্দেগির মাধ্যমে পালন করবেন।

শবে বরাতের নফল নামাজ ও ইবাদত: রাসুলুল্লাহ (সা.) বলেন, এ রাতে নফল ইবাদত করবে ও দিনে রোজা পালন করবে। (ইবনে মাজাহ)। ইবাদতের মধ্যে শ্রেষ্ঠ হলো নামাজ; সুতরাং নফল ইবাদতের মধ্যে শ্রেষ্ঠ হলো নফল নামাজ। প্রতিটি নফল ইবাদতের জন্য তাজা অজু বা নতুন অজু করা মোস্তাহাব। বিশেষ ইবাদতের জন্য গোসল করাও মোস্তাহাব। ইবাদতের জন্য দিন অপেক্ষা রাত শ্রেয়তর।

হজরত আলী (রা.) থেকে বর্ণিত, নবী করিম (সা.) বলেছেন, এ রাত যখন আসে, তখন তোমরা এ রাতটি ইবাদত-বন্দেগিতে কাটাও এবং দিনের বেলায় রোজা রাখো; কেন না, এদিন সূর্যাস্তের পর আল্লাহ তাআলা দুনিয়ার আসমানে নেমে আসেন এবং আহ্বান করেন; কোনো ক্ষমাপ্রার্থী আছ কি? আমি ক্ষমা করব; কোনো রিজিকপ্রার্থী আছ কি? আমি রিজিক দেব; আছ কি কোনো বিপদগ্রস্ত? আমি উদ্ধার করব। এভাবে ভোর পর্যন্ত আল্লাহ তাআলা মানুষের বিভিন্ন প্রয়োজনের কথা উল্লেখ করে আহ্বান করতে থাকেন। (ইবনে মাজাহ, হাদিস: ১৩৮৪)।
