Today, the faculty members of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at BGC Trust University Bangladesh held a highly productive meeting with our Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Manzoorul Kibria Sir.
The university's honorable treasurer Prof. Dr. Hazrat Ali Mia Sir and Registrar-in-charge Dr. S.M Shoaib Sir were present at the meeting.
We had a great opportunity to review the department’s academic progress, as well as our recent co-curricular and extracurricular initiatives. It was an insightful session where we shared our recent milestones and discussed strategic plans and valuable suggestions for the upcoming academic session. Looking forward to implementing these new ideas!

Bridging the gap between classroom and real-world media!
Today, students from the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at BGC Trust University Bangladesh had an incredible opportunity to visit the Chattogram Bureau Office of 'Ekhon Television'. Supervised by Lecturer Sarwar Kamal, this practical visit gave students a firsthand look into the fast-paced world of broadcast journalism.
EKhon Television's Chattogram Bureau Chief Hossain Ahmad Ziad warmly welcomed the group, walking them through the news process—from field gathering to editing and broadcasting. He reminded students that the future of media is highly dynamic, making multimedia and tech skills absolutely essential!
The day wrapped up with an educational visit to the historic Chattogram War Cemetery. A truly inspiring day preparing the journalists of tomorrow!

Overview
The Department of Journalism and Media Studies at BGC Trust University Bangladesh (BGCTUB) invites students to participate in the Environmental Reporting Competition 2026. Organized by the 6th Batch (7th Semester) under the “Environmental and Disaster Journalism” course, this competition challenges you to uncover and report on critical ecological issues.
Submission Process: Two Phases
To ensure high-quality reporting, the competition will follow a two-step selection process:
1. Phase 1: The Pitch (Deadline: May 14, 2026) Submit a brief pitch outlining your story idea, the environmental issue you intend to cover, and your proposed methodology.

2. Phase 2: Final Report (Deadline: May 30, 2026) If your pitch is selected by our Jury Board, you will be invited to produce and submit your full news report.

Final Report Formats
Selected participants can submit their work in one of the following categories:
Feature Article: A deep-dive written piece between 800–1,200 words.
Multimedia Report: A video report between 3–5 minutes, accompanied by a brief written script.
Recognition & Rewards
The Jury Board will evaluate the final submissions and select three winners. Excellence in reporting will be rewarded with:
Cash Prize
Certificate of Achievement
Publication Opportunity in departmental or local media outlets.

Students of the Department of Journalism, BGCTUB, visited the office of somoynews.tv as part of their academic activities.
During the visit, they explored the newsroom, studio, PCR, MCR, editing panels, and multimedia division, gaining firsthand experience of a modern broadcast environment. The session offered valuable practical insights into field reporting challenges and contemporary broadcasting technologies.
