May we open our palms in prayer.
May we open our hearts in prayer.
May we open every cell of our being in prayer.
May we open every strand of our awareness in prayer.
May our breath become prayer.
May our intentions become prayer.
May our perception itself become prayer.
May our intellection become prayer.
May our studies become prayer.
May our relationships become prayer.
May our longing become prayer.
May even our physical hunger become a form of prayer.
May every atom of the universe open and manifest the divine
light that is its inherent nature, which is a nature of sheer
openness, of emptiness of limited attributes.
May we see the transparency of Reality.
May we come into the embrace of that Reality, which is
supreme love, a love not based on subject or object, a love
not based on emotions or limited expectations, but a pure
love which flows like a cascade from the very heart of Divine
Essence, which manifests as the universe, which manifests as
all of the living souls, all of the precious creations of Allah,
created male and female as a mystic expression of the divine
completeness.
May all of this become transparent to the gaze of our heart.
May we really understand all of this as La ilaha illallah, all of
this as the manifestation of the nur of tawhid (light of unity).
May we become conscious beings of unity.
168 living open space
May our kiss be a kiss of unity.
May our embrace be an embrace of unity.
May our language be a language of unity.
May we have the language of eyvallah, of alhamdulillah, of
ma’shallah, of Allahu akbar.
May we actually beautify not only our conventional speech
but the communications of our heart with the beautiful name,
Allah.
May we be constantly singing the most beautiful divine names.
May we cry out, “Ya Alim—Allah is the only knower. Allah is
knowledge!”
May we revere knowledge wherever we find it, in whatever
noble tradition.
May we become the arifs—the knowers, the Gnostics.
Amin, Al hamdulillah-i-rabbi’l alamin.

My life is a laboratory of alchemical interactions. But my principle of research is to keep each tradition uncontaminated by the rational, secular modern world or by the eclectic, anti-traditional New Age movement, which are reverse mirror reflections of each other. I am also careful about casually mixing and making facile equivalencies between these five sacred worlds, which are each unique, incomparable, non-interchangeable, inclusive, integral and complete. They are not in need of any interpretation or infusion from outside, yet are never locked within themselves but remain open to the Sacred. Nonetheless, it is a fact that these various initiatory currents of energy are flowing within a single person, so they cannot be hermetically sealed from each other. There is a healing interaction similar to deep friendship between the various initiatory streams within a citizen of parallel sacred worlds. This experience far transcends mere ecumenical dialogue or liturgical experiment.

Living Open Space: The Interspiritual Journey of Lex Hixon
By Gregory Blann
Living Open Space: The Interspiritual Journey of Lex Hixon is a spiritual biography and compendium of the universalist teachings of the American mystic, author, radio host, and Sufi sheikh, Lex Hixon, also known as Sheikh Nur al-Jerrahi. Deeply inspired by the conviction that there is One Source underlying all the world’s great traditions, Lex passionately embraced and practiced the teachings of Vedanta, Tibetan and Zen Buddhism, Orthodox Christianity and Islamic Sufism, as well as other sacred paths, reconciling these diverse sacred ways in the non-dual “open space” beyond the boundaries of sectarian religion.
