The Department of Economics congratulates its alum Professor Dr Osama S M Khan for this high level of academic achievement.

From IUB to UK’s top academic leadership: IUB alum Prof. Osama Khan, who earned his Bachelor’s in Economics at IUB in the Class of 1999, has been appointed the next Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of South Wales (USW), UK. He will assume office in May 2026.

Prof. Khan is currently serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Aston University and has previously held the position of Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Surrey. This appointment establishes him as the first academic - born, raised, and educated in Bangladesh - to ascend to the chief executive office of a public university in the UK and Europe.

Sabrina Islam, a BSc graduate from the Department of Economics at IUB, started her fully-funded PhD at the University of Manitoba, Canada, beginning August 19, 2025. Her doctoral work aims to explore how trade policies, labor mobility, and how governance affects economic growth in the ASEAN region, with potential policy implications for inclusive development.
