Barishal University Research Society (BURS) is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant research culture among the students of Barishal University. Established on September 01, 2022, with the slogan “Research for Generating New Knowledge,” BURS aims to make research engaging and accessible to students. Our mission is to
foster healthy research practices, facilitate student-teacher collaboration, and address various issues through effective research. We also strive to expand our global research network and contribute to building research-friendly universities in Bangladesh. Our organization proudly collaborates with research societies from other universities across the country, such as DU, JU, RU, KU, JNU, BUP, NSTU, CoU, JUST, SUST, IU, JKKNIU, PUST, HSTU, DIU, LU, and MBSTU, creating a broad network of research-oriented students. Dr. Mohammad Badruzzaman Bhuiyan, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the University of Barishal. Our Chief Advisor is Dr. Md. Khorshed Alam, Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Physics at the University of Barishal. We are supported by over 60 teachers from six faculties, with Md. Sohel Rana, Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Political Science, Hosneara Dalia, Assistant Professor of the Department of Public Administration and MD Hasib, Assistant Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology serving as our Moderators. BURS actively participates in national and international conferences, seminars, scholar meets, youth research summits, contests, exhibitions, and fairs, representing Barishal University. Recently, our young researchers attended the 6th Annual International Conference on “Identity Politics and Its Implications in the 21st Century” organized by the Bengal Institute of Political Studies (BIPS) in Kolkata, India. They also participated in events at Jadavpur University, Presidency University, Calcutta University, Vidyasagar University, Burdwan University, Rabindra Bharati University, and Kazi Nazrul University (Asansol), showcasing Bangladesh on a global platform. We are currently associated with the Bangladesh Research Society and Dhaka University Research Society for the 6-month “BDRS Research Learning Program-2024” and regularly launch research-related programs to engage our students. Our objectives include organizing workshops, skill development sessions, youth leadership programs, national and international seminars, research fairs, and conferences to encourage young generations to engage in research. We also arrange idea contests, young researchers’ summits, and research paper contests, provide specialized training for assignments, theses, and monographs, and help students gain pre-employment experience through internships and part-time or voluntary jobs. BURS collaborates with universities both at home and abroad for research, arranging monthly research sessions and weekly workshops. By promoting a healthy research culture, facilitating student-teacher collaborations, and expanding our national and international connections, BURS is committed to contributing to the establishment of research-friendly universities in Bangladesh, removing barriers to research work, and supporting the development of a dynamic, interactive, and global research community. The second session of the "Research Learning and Paper Writing Program, Season 2," organized by the Bangladesh Research Society, took place yesterday, offering participants an in-depth look into "Research Ethics and Plagiarism." Led by the esteemed Kazi Sameeo Sheesh, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Research on Arts and Social Science, the session was both highly informative and engaging.
Kazi Sameeo Sheesh covered essential topics such as obtaining consent from research participants, ensuring confidentiality, and the importance of respecting participants' right to withdraw information. He highlighted the ethical challenges researchers face, especially when balancing confidentiality with ethical considerations.
A significant part of the discussion focused on plagiarism. Mr. Sheesh emphasized proper citation practices to avoid plagiarism, including paraphrasing, summarizing, and direct quoting. He also warned against self-plagiarism and unintentional plagiarism, stressing the severe consequences plagiarism can have on a research career.
The session was interactive, with a lengthy Q&A segment that encouraged participants to engage deeply with the subject and clear their doubts. Overall, it was an enriching experience for emerging researchers to strengthen their understanding of ethical research practices.

📣 Are you ready to make a difference? The "𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝟮.𝟬" contest is your chance to shine! This exciting competition invites all Barisal University students to team up and present innovative ideas that address Bangladesh's most pressing issues.
📌 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:
𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲: The event will commence with a welcome address by the Chief Advisor of BURS, outlining the contest’s theme and objectives.
𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 25 teams from various departments will present their innovative ideas, followed by a 2-minute Q&A session with the judges.
𝐉𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Expert judges will evaluate presentations based on creativity, feasibility, relevance, and impact.
𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤: Participants will have the opportunity to connect with judges, faculty, and peers over refreshments.
𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Renowned experts will discuss the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to national progress.

-Submit: An abstract (max 300 words) detailing your idea’s objective, problem statement, proposed solution, and expected impact (along with payment information, including transaction ID).

▪️Eligibility: Open to all regular students of Barishal University.
▪️Team Composition: Team of 3 members from each department.
▪️Maximum Teams: 25 teams.
▪️Proposal Submission: Teams must submit a brief proposal outlining their innovative ideas.
▪️Presentation Round: Selected proposals will advance to the presentation round.
▪️Format: Each team will have 5 minutes to present their idea, followed by a 2-minute Q&A session.
▪️Judging Panel: Comprised of one judge from each faculty.
▪️Evaluation Criteria: Creativity, feasibility, and potential impact of the ideas.
🌟 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
– Acceptance Certificates: Provided to all participating teams.
– Certificates of Excellence: Awarded to the top three teams.
– Crests & Medals: Presented to teams with outstanding ideas.

We are excited to share fundamental instructions on how to conduct a literature review. This video is from the 3rd session of Barishal University Research Society's (BURS) month-long workshop, “𝗚𝗼𝗯𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗛𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗸𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶-গবেষণার হাতেখড়ি,” ✍️ held in October 2022.
The session was led by Dr. Bijan Krishna Saha, Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Barishal. Dr. Saha, who was a BURS Moderator before becoming an Advisor, provided insightful commentary during the session.
This workshop was the first of its kind at Barisal University, designed to introduce university students to the foundational concepts of research and inspire them to embark on their own research projects. Through these sessions, students gained essential knowledge and practical advice on starting their research journeys.
We hope this video will serve as a valuable resource for all students eager to learn more about research.

🎉 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 to 𝑺𝑨𝑲𝑳𝑰𝑵𝑬 𝑺𝑯𝑨𝑾𝑶𝑵 on getting the opportunity to PhD at Helmholtz Institute of Environmental Research- UFZ, Germany. He is a former Student, Department of Soil and Environmental Sciences (2013-2014), University of Barishal.
Sakline has worked as a student assistant at the Department of Aquatic System Analysis and Management (ASAM) at Helmholtz-Zentrum für Umweltforschung – UFZ, Magdeburg. He has also worked as a student assistant at the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) and Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF).
He had awarded the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2021, Hungary for Master's degree in Environmental Science at University of Debrecen. He completed his M.Sc. in Integrated Natural Resource Management from Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany and previously completed B.Sc. in Soil and Environmental Sciences at the University of Barishal, Bangladesh.
This remarkable achievement brings great joy to the BUians. We are so proud of his outstanding accomplishments and look forward to seeing him continue to excel as a PhD Scholar. His success inspires us all, and we wish him a bright and prosperous future ahead!

🎉 Greetings and congrats to all BUians, as we joyfully commemorate the Barishal University Research Society's (BURS) 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆! 🌼
Our journey started two years ago from today, September 1, 2022, when a group of twenty-four enthusiastic students from several departments formed a convening committee. Our goal is to make research interesting, simple, and available to Barishal University students. Even though this organization was formally founded in 2022, its foundation was laid in the middle of 2019.
✨ BURS's main objective has always been to help students develop a research-oriented mindset. We have put in many hours to support ethical research procedures, enable student-teacher cooperation on a range of initiatives, and help use research to effectively address social issues. Our goals include breaking down barriers to undergraduate research, developing research-friendly universities in Bangladesh, and strengthening interconnections between national and international research networks.
The global pandemic has been one of the difficulties we have faced, but we have endured because of the help of 70 teacher advisers, 3 committed moderators, 6 consultants, 88 executive members, and more than 400 general members. Every year, a fresh cohort of gifted, driven, and aspirational students joins us, propelling our goals ahead with their innovative ideas. By representing Barishal University and Bangladesh at numerous national and international conferences, seminars, and youth exchange programs, these young researchers never cease to make us proud.
We take great pride in our extensive affiliation with a wide range of research societies from various universities throughout the nation, such as Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University, Khulna University, and several more. We are creating a robust, research-focused community across 26 universities and institutions by working together.
In addition to celebrating this accomplishment, we would want to thank everyone who has helped us along the way for their significant efforts. 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐒𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐪 deserves special recognition for his constant support and leadership, which have been crucial from the start. He has always been there for us as a mentor, offering guidance and support—sometimes flying hundreds of kilometers to meet organizational needs. Saifullah Sadeq, we appreciate your commitment to and faith in our cause.
As we look to the future, we remain committed to our goals of fostering research, overcoming challenges, and contributing to a dynamic and globally connected community. Here’s to many more years of growth, success, and impactful research!
