18 knots gusting 25 yesterday. Two participants. Back-to-back tacks and jibes, sailing toward specific marks, stopping under sail (and even sailing backwards), taking turns at the helm and figuring out the best course as they went.

The conditions demanded firm decisions, and participants who were able to rise to meet them.

Watching confidence grow in real time is what days like this are all about. It doesn't come from a classroom, It happens quietly when people keep showing up and putting in the hours.

Certification gives you the start. The sailing club is where you actually learn.

That's why we do this every week.

Another Sunday. Another 4 hours on the water.
No trophies. No finish lines. No audience.
Just wind, waves, good company, and the kind of experience you can't get from a book.
Today the Sailing Club crew added another 4 hours to their logbooks. That might not sound like much, but sailing isn't learned in a classroom. It's learned by feeling how the boat responds to a gust, watching the sea state change, trimming a sail a little better than last time, and spending enough hours on the water that confidence slowly replaces uncertainty.
One weekend becomes two. Four hours become forty. Forty become hundreds.
That's how sailors are made.
The conditions were classic Barbados: warm water, steady breeze, and enough cloud cover to keep everyone comfortable while still delivering another beautiful day at sea. We talked sail trim, practiced boat handling, shared stories, and simply enjoyed being exactly where we wanted to be.
Because every hour on the water teaches something new.
And while most people spent Sunday watching screens, our crew spent it learning a skill they'll carry for the rest of their lives.
See you next weekend for another 4 hours, another few miles, and another step forward on the journey.

The forecast wasn't exciting.

Most people would have assumed it wasn't a great day to get on the water.

Then we picked up mooring during sailing practice.

And Barbados reminded us that the best parts of the Caribbean aren't always above the surface.

Thousands of fish.
Warm water.
A wreck full of life.

Another reminder that sailing isn't just about learning to sail.

It's about discovering an entirely different world.

And sometimes the most memorable days are the ones that don't start with blue skies.

Most sailors are comfortable tacking.

Far fewer are comfortable gybing a poled-out headsail.

This smooth wing-on-wing gybe on our Jeanneau 32 demonstrates the importance of preparation, communication, and boat handling when sailing dead downwind.

No accidental gybes.
No drama.
Just good seamanship.

These are the practical skills our students learn while sailing the warm trade winds of Barbadosβ€”where sailing season never ends.

Would you be comfortable handling this maneuver?

Three days. One marriage. Zero divorces. Two ASA 101 certification

Congratulations to Troy and Tabitha on earning their ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing Certification!

Three days, countless tacks and gybes, a few lessons on why accidental gybes should be avoided at all costs, and enough Man Overboard practice to confidently rescue each other anywhere in the Caribbean.

They came to learn to sail as a married couple looking for an adventure. They left as certified sailors, stronger teammates, and fully prepared to sail through life togetherβ€”both on land and on the water.

There's something special about learning to sail in Barbados. Warm trade winds, crystal-clear water, sea turtles, sunshine, and sailing conditions that make every day on the water a chance to learn something new.

Ready for your own sailing adventure? Barbados is just a flight away.

How do you become a better sailor?

You go sailing.

Not once. Not twice. Consistently.

This month alone:

β›΅ Justine logged 16 hours on the water β€” approximately 72 nautical miles sailed.

β›΅ Daniel logged 8 hours.

β›΅ Felippe logged 4 hours.

β›΅ Raphael logged 4 hours.

Every hour brings something different: changing wind directions, stronger gusts, lighter breezes, sail trim adjustments, boat handling, crew communication, decision-making, and confidence.

There is no substitute for experience.

Reading books helps. Taking courses helps. But real learning happens when you're out there feeling the wind, making mistakes, solving problems, and building miles under your keel.

That's exactly why we created the Wet & Salty Sailing Club.

For just 500 BBD per month, members get on the water every weekend, building the kind of experience that turns sailors into skippers.

Because sailing isn't learned from the dock.

It's learned one nautical mile at a time.
