Last week, we had the opportunity to host our Interdisciplinary Summer School on the Rights of Children and Future Generations, bringing together 23 young people from across Europe for a week of learning, discussion, and exchange.

Throughout the programme, participants explored topics related to children’s rights, climate and intergenerational justice, migration, social inclusion, child participation, and the impact of emerging technologies on children and young people. Through lectures, workshops, and collaborative group work, the Summer School created a space for critical reflection, interdisciplinary learning, and meaningful dialogue.

As part of the programme, participants also presented their group projects developed during the week, welcomed representatives from UNICEF for a special session and discussion, and visited the War Childhood Museum, where they reflected on children’s experiences of war, resilience, and memory.

A huge thank you to all participants, lecturers, partners, and contributors who made this week so inspiring. We leave the Summer School with new knowledge, ideas, friendships, and a renewed commitment to advancing the rights of children and future generations.

How free is the press in South-East Europe?

According to the 2025 World Press Freedom Index (RSF),
most countries in the region fall into “problematic” categories.

From Slovenia ( #33) to Kosovo ( #99), the region shows a clear pattern:
press freedom is under pressure.

From political influence to economic dependency,
journalism is facing structural challenges.

On 3 May – World Press Freedom Day,
access to reliable and independent information remains essential.

Because informed societies are stronger societies.

You don’t always see it but you breathe it every day.

In parts of the Balkans, air pollution is a constant reality. In Bosnia and Herzegovina:

• Around 3,300 people die prematurely every year due to air pollution

• Nearly 1 in 10 deaths linked to poor air quality

• Cities like Sarajevo regularly rank among the most polluted in the world

Air pollution is largely human-made which also means it is preventable.

On 22 April – International Mother Earth Day, the question is not only how we celebrate the planet.

It is how we protect it— and whether we are doing enough.
