For the past five years, Cross Cultures Association in the WB region has proudly been part of the Equal Play Effect (EPE) movement — a journey that began with a shared vision called Breaking Barriers for girls in Europe initiative - to break barriers and create equal opportunities for everyone through sport.
Throughout this time, we have worked side by side with inspiring partners, organizations, local communities, schools, clubs and parents. Together, we have engaged hundreds of women and girls, empowering them not only as participants but as leaders and changemakers in their local environments.
EPE movement strengthened CCPA's advocacy and helped embed it in action. What started as awareness has evolved into a sustainable movement, where gender inclusivity is no longer an add-on but a norm. Champions and volunteers across the Western Balkans have become multipliers—each one sparking change in their own community.
EPE has shown us the power of providing equal opportunity to everyone - the way inclusion on the field can translate into confidence, leadership and solidarity off it, creating a ripple effect that strengthens individuals, communities and the broader movement toward gender equality.
As this chapter of EPE comes to an end, we look back with pride and gratitude for the community we’ve created and the lives we’ve touched across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo. This has been an empowering journey of learning, growth and collective action, driving us to embed gender equality at the heart of our work while inspiring change at both organizational and community levels. The journey doesn’t end here — it continues, carried by every girl and woman who now leads with confidence, strength and purpose.

''Changemaker Challenge Project Kickoff – We’re officially underway!
On Friday, May 16th, we successfully launched the Changemaker Challenge Project with a joint online kickoff meeting between Cross Cultures and Johan Cruyff Foundation!
Participants from both partner organizations came together via Zoom to align on the toolkit and methodologies that will guide our local activities. This marks the beginning of a collaborative journey to strengthen inclusion and community engagement throughout the summer around Women’s Euro 2025.

What’s next?

⭕️On-the-ground events across both countries this summer
⭕️Storytelling, social media sharing, and impact monitoring – Stay tuned!
⭕️International knowledge exchange event in the Netherlands in October

🤩We are proud to announce that Aleksandra, Vildana, Tamara and Anja, our Breaking Barriers Champions and staff members at Cross Cultures Project Association, attended the adidas Breaking Barriers Convening in Herzogenaurach !!!

The convening was packed with inspiring workshops and learning opportunities, including

🤸‍♀️Breast health awareness workshop led by The Bra Professor Wakefield-Scurr and a personalized bra fitting from adidas Bra Fitters.

🏃‍♀️Menstrual awareness in sports workshop led by Emma Ross from Well HQ –

👩‍🌾Gender equity and the intersectionality with racial justice led by Goal

👷‍♀️Gender beyond the binary - the inclusion of trans and non-binary people in sport led by Win

🏆The event was packed with networking opportunities, sports practices and time to explore magical adidas campus.

With a mission to make sport equal for women and girls, the adidas Breaking Barriers Project is about more than just sport—it’s about driving true equality. By working alongside experts and local leaders, this initiative is equipping us all with the tools to create greater access, equity, and safety in sports.
