How does calculus form? When plaque stays on your teeth for 2-3 days, it hardens and mineral to form calculus (tartar) on your teeth. A high mineral content of your saliva will also increase calculus formation. This hard layer, calculus, will create a protective shield for bacteria on the teeth.

Halloween festivities might be over, but the lingering affects off all that sugary candy certainly isn’t! 🧚🏼
While the Trick or Treating might only last a night, the stash that you or your kids collect will last a lot longer than that, meaning you’re going to have an ongoing problem of how to handle all that sugar for the coming days in November.
Here are 5 important tips to take into consideration:
1. Timing
It is ideally to take some halloween treats after meal time because the saliva production in your mouth increases during meals and helps to cancel out the acids which are produced by bacteria. This helps rinse away food particles, especially sugary substances from candies.
2. Avoid sticky candy
These stick to your/kids teeth and weaken the enamel because they take longer to get washed away by the saliva.
3. Brush your teeth twice a day.
3. You should already be doing this on a daily basis, but it is extra important when you are having extra candies and gummies in your diet. For extra caution, it is helpful to brush your teeth a third time after lunch, just to be sure that sugar isn’t sticking around their teeth and gums.
4. Clean between teeth
Floss, Floss, Floss! You are removing plaque and food particles between your teeth and preventing a build-up sugar and acidic substances which cause nasty cavities.
5. Schedule a post Halloween check up
You are more than welcome to come by for a dental check up by members from our club.
